Nice, fun little quiz. Pretty much got 10/10 - I've noticed it's surprising how often people can actually pick out and notice little nuisances like this in your writing.

Well they may be just little nuisances to you, but when people are paying you to write I can understand they're concern.

Eliminate both. The sentence sounds good without that or which.

He bought all the books required for the course.

Nice -- not only does it save the writer from the that/which debate, it's quicker too. And we authors love to go fast. Readers love it too.

I actually catch myself doing this all the time. When I'm unsure about something grammatical, I rephrase (usually trimming it up). That's how I dodge every "had had," etc. that comes into my head. It never makes it to paper.

OKAY here is the EXACT usage difference between WHICH and THAT..
WHICH-Used when the thing being referred to is NOT the only thing that can be referred...
EX: "Please pick the book which is hardbound". (Assuming there are many hardbound books)
THAT- Used as a limiting word. Basically like a search narrowing word, wherein, the thing being referred to is the ONLY possible thing of its kind
EX:"Please pick the book THAT is hardbound" (assuming there is JUST ONE hardbound book)

The difference between "then" and "than" is a good one to know too.

I think we need the lessons! I don't know about everyone else but when I was at school they almost assumed we already knew about the rules of grammar. It took one shocked teacher to finally start teaching us, but even then I can barely remember anything. I have been brushing up on my punctuation rules from the book 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves' but I feel that grammar will be next!

    Informally...
Use "than" to compare (as in: oranges are better than apples).
Use "then" to say what happened next (as in: I ate an apple, then I ate an orange.

I aced all of them. I am an English teacher to Chinese kids so I am glad I aced them all

I notice the person who wrote the article might be from another country

they slaughter the English Language here in China, absolutely slaughter it with no remorse or understanding

so this quiz can help my students out
