So, it's universal that COM is the best TLD domain. But what's the next best thing? Is it NET or ORG? Please vote.
IMO they are equal. I voted for neither. Although .net is somewhat used more, I think it doesn't matter. I also feel that the TLD .org has more respect because organizations use it.
I agree with what axs says. .ORG sounds more professional. .NET to me, seems kind of cheap and unprofessional. But overall, I dont think it matters between the two. But I would go with .ORG
I say .net for general purposes, but if you do have a valid reason for a .org then .org does sound somewhat more professional. But if your just selling a product, service or something then I say .net.
if you sell a commercial product, or run a general forum or blog, or run a to-let type website, or web directory or any dating website or any other general or commercial website and take a TLD .org, then it will look like a bit cheating. So for most usual cases I will go for .net
I heard that .net is better for SEO? But I think they are equal. Also can depend on the type of site...
Yea, for my site, I have a .org, but thats cause the .com and .net was taken You should only use .Org if its a nonprofit site/organization. Otherwise it doesn't seem fit.
I personally would prefer a .org over a .net for most keywords and phrases. I think the .org extensions is gaining steam as the .nets are faltering - It seems to me that more business and end-users are searching for more .orgs than .nets
.net has the quantity, but .org has the quality. Simple,.org will out-power and out-last .net winner- .org
I think .NET is a failure domain, it's worthless. It doesn't offer any atmosphere to a website. While .COM makes it sound really important and .ORG makes it sound communal, .NET just sounds like a small business website or like "well... we tried"... I can't even think of any popular .NET websites off the top of my mind... case in point.
These extensions have meaning: .com = Commercial .net = Network .org = Organization When these were first introduced.. they were meant as a means of organizing the internet in their respective fashion. If your purpose was commercial, you got a .com. If you were a network of some kind, like an ISP, or email, or anything else related to network functions/operations or the like.. you setup a .net ... and of course .org was meant for other organization.. since the opposite of commercial is non-profit.. it was popularized as the charity domain. Of course, Network Solutions in their infinite wisdom(COUGHCOUGHGREEDCOUGHCOUGH) wanted to make as much money as possible, so they put zero requirements on the registration of these domains, unlike many other new TLDs, which are still trying to adhere to their original purpose of introduction. My vote was for .ORG, just because it is more easily trusted by visitors as a neutral or at least non-profit source of information. .NET however works really well if you are looking to setup a social NETWORK. Hope this littler history lesson helps some in their future decisions on registering new domains.
I like net especially for something like a technology or hacking site, .org sounds too boring for me.
I can agree with those that are making good points to .net ...but I guess what we have to do is clarify what "best" means? ...in the case that best means 'popularity' I would say .net, but if best means 'most trusted' or 'high quality' I would say .org. Scriptglue makes excellent points, but the only question/thought I have is how can .org become popular? As well, I'm not sure on the stats, but how many coms/nets/orgs are there? I would say nets are larger than orgs, obviously... but would like to see if anyone can pull some numbers. So, I guess in the situation where if .com was gone, and it was net or org to take it's place, then I would say .net cause it's pretty much a watered-down version of .com.
it depends on with your purpose. if u use it for private use, net is the best but if u use it for non profiable or for welth for others org matchs
I think net tld. Because net domains pupularity than other tlds. I'm dont say. My website visitors say.
I totally agree. Regardless of what the .org and .net extensions were originally intended for, .org (like .org.uk in the UK) has become the recognised domain extension of charities and non-profit organisations, other sites on this extension just don't look right. .net on the other hand is more versatile and doesn't really have a specific type of website attached to it, so I always prefer to use .net
