how to rank for: my blue widget, without quotes!

    I'm at the top of Google for: "my blue widget" (with quotes)
    But I'm #5 for my blue widget (without quotes)

    I've used "my blue widget" for a lot of anchor text and on a lot of pages with "my blue widget" in their title.

    But what can I do to rank higher for my blue widget without quotes?

    Should I just still get more "my blue widget" links or should I do something different? Should I get some "my widget blue" and "widget my blue" links, for example?

    Any tricks?

    I wouldn't worry too much about trying to rank for your keywords in quotes. For my site it accounts for only 1.5% of the search engine hits.

    Well, I'm actually trying to rank higher for my keywords without quotes. I'm already #1 for the keywords in quotes.

    There is your answer, just get more links that have your "blue widget" keyword in the anchor text pointing to your site.

    "blue widget" or "my blue widget" or "widget blue my".

    To be clear, my question is: Is there something different to do to rank for keywords without quotes rather than with quotes? Should I change something in my link building?

    No. What the quotes do is search for where "My Blue Widget" is used in that order.

    Where as My Blue Widget without the quotes will return results that contain the words "my", and/or "blue", and/or "widget" in any order.

    How can I optimize my SEO to improve the ranking of my blue widget, without quotes, rather than "my blue widget", with quotes.

    More links with your anchor text is the only answer
    post more content and fresh content with "my blue widget" as well.. more and more links...

    So there are no difference in trying to rank for searches in quote VS searches without quotes? No different tricks?

    Anchor text with "my blue widget" is the only way to improve the ranking of both?

    I would really like to know Google algorithms for both because they ARE different.

    No there are no different tricks. The only reason that you rank higher with the quotes is that you are the highest ranked page that has the words in that order. Just keep you link building.

    Here i shall try and help tata668.

    In a simple answer do what your doing now and be patient. Its obvious that you would rank higher for your term in quotes before the term out of quotes because of the decrease in results with the keyword in quotes.

    However to ensure you reach the number one place, you need to keep building the amount of backlinks you have using my blue widget in your anchor text. As well as this add content with my blue widget in, add title tags, keyword tags with the keyword in ensure you have fully optimised your on page SEO.

    SEO is an on going technique which takes time to perfect, i would not worry too much as it seems you are heading in the right direction.

    But even if there are more results for the keywords without quotes, I don't see why some sites ranks higher than me then!

    Anyway, I'll just get more backlinks with "my blue widget" and hope I'll reach the top for both with and without quotes!

    It will be because of many factors, perhaps the domain age is longer, they have more backlinks, more on page SEO, more reputation and a lot more.
