    My first impression is not that I'm looking at a sports site. It's too...blah
    You need something that "Pops"
    think about the subject you are talking about. Sports fans need something to look at, interact with. Try a scoreboard on the page, or a standings chart. Sports highlight clips. And you should have some sports oriented graphics.

    I think it looks good; The colors are fine, the layout is great, and most people who check it out won't be turned off from it. So I think it's just fine.

    Upon viewing the site I did not get the impression that I was looking at a sports site.
    I think you should add some type of graphic into the header that will give your viewers
    an idea of what the site is about.

    You can put your own logo there , by just creating a logo with transparent background and replacing it with current one.

    You can also use TLD instead of subdomain.

    Just 2 steps required , otherwise its good about skin.

    not enough contrast for the bark theme. try different font for logo. have some sections open to be viewed w/o registration - will help with indexing, seo.
