Any Traffic From Directories?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by mochilero, Aug 9, 2005.

Every time I build a site, I submit it to about 30 directories. I rarely ever see any traffic at all from them, but I continue to submit to them in order to increase the number of incoming links and therefore, hopefully, my ranking with Google. I don't even get traffic from my listings in the open directory (DMOZ).

Do any of you see any traffic from directories, and if so, which ones?

Once in a while I see a few referrals from the smaller directory sites. I do normally see traffic each week from DMOZ for a few of my clients. It is generally hit and miss from the smaller directories with very little consistency. :(

I got one from the Yahoo directory last week, I think...and I got one once from DMOZ.

I've never had one hit from DMOZ directly. Been in there for a few years now too. I might see 1 or 2 hits here and there from the smaller directories, the big ones have sent me nothing.

Obviously, the point of directories isn't the direct traffic they send, but the indirect traffic through increasing ranking. If people used the directories to search for things the search engines would be out of business.

There is one directory that has sent me a chunk of traffic, 50 uniques per day at one stage, and thats Hotscripts. Its a very large scripts/resources directory.

general directories won't send much or any traffic. I get lot of traffic from nich directories (not seo friendly at all).

No doubt that sites don get much traffic from dirs but you get permanent and life time backlinks from relevant categories of dir, which is always good for long run. Usually people buy text links from high pr sites on monthly basis which in turns gives your site pr and thats only for short run. So keep submitting your sites to seo friendly directories.

I am getting a small portion of my monthly visitors from directories. Kwikgoblin has been one of the best performers so far. Also businessseek. Although Hotscripts isn't seo friendly, it does generate traffic.

I don't get any traffic from directories. I just use them for link purposes and to get new sites indexed faster.

Yeah .. general directories send almost no traffic .. even the super-big ones like DMOZ and Y! .. but the obscure oddball niche ones .. which can include homespun "helpful links" pages created by fans or advocates of a niche topic .. oh those can be golden .. takes some real effort to get them though ..
