.co.uk versus .net

I am in the process of building a number of mini-sites and if the .com is not available then I usually opt for the .net

BUt what about .co.uk - I know this is specific to UK countries but is it stronger than a .net?

Also, would it limit my traffic to UK only? Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

.co.uk is very prestigious and has a number of advantages - none trading individuals do not have to post WHOIS information for example :)

If you are selling to UK customers primarily then definitely do it. UK customers will almost always buy from a .co.uk site over something else.

As xentech said - if you're aiming for UK customers then get a .co.uk

Here is Australia, you could have a .com.au and I would think you are an Aussie company. So I would think a .co.uk is a British website.

good point! you have to define which audience you want to target - the brits or worldwide.

If the case is you want to target the first one then without any doubt you should go for the dot co dot uk one.

If you are aiming for clients and customers from UK, your best bet is for the co.uk. If worldwide, then go for .NET. :)

Yeah, I agree with everyone else:
Get a .co.uk domain if it's only/primarily targeted at the UK. If you're not specifically targeting the UK then choose ".net" (if .com isn't available)...

If your primary traffic and your site content is related to UK.. then try .co.uk.
If it is not that case, go for .net.

I'm in the UK and I'm not bothered whether a site has a .co.uk or .net extension - to be honest I would reccommend using .net as you won't risk restricting the target user base, but that's just my opinion.
