    I'm a fan of sorenson squeeze or on2 flix pro for high quality conversion with good features (watch folders, effects processing etc). These are commercial products however. With free products virtualdub is excellent, and if you can handle using a command line, ffmpeg+mencoder will do pretty much anything (there are free gui's available for these too .. many cheap video converters you'll see people advertising are just fancy frontends packaging ffmpeg to do the conversion)

    Am using different softwares to convert videos from avi to mpeg, flv to mpeg, and vice versa.

    Depending on the current video format that you have
    there is various software that is faster than others.

    Please can you tell me which format your video is
    currently in for example; wmv, avi, 3gp etc.

    Microsoft have a free utility windows media encoder that will do it.
    Sorenson squeeze also does excellent wmv conversion.
