Your opinion: Sub-Domain Or Sub-Directory?

    Hi all,

I wanna hear what you all think the differences are:

Looking at it from the SEO way and what visitors/you like better?

I usually use sub-directories and they work fine SEO-wise, but not sure what visitors/you like.

    Thanks in advance,
    Xohaib

Choice depend upon your requirement. Means if you are going to expand your main domain relevant to your niche than i wud say sub directory is best. Because sub directory directly attached to your domain and you need not give extra efforts to make it popular. But in sub domain you have different address and it's completely different to your domain and you have to give efforts in promotion from starting.

But if you are going to expand your domain different to your niche then subdomain is better.

Sub domain is much better than having a sub directory.

    I'll agree with Sub Directory.

google is also using sub domains but sub folders will be easy to do SEO work for your site.

    Thanks

Sub directories are better for seo - they keep the authority of the domain.

    Sub domain
    • some directories doesnt accept sub directories
    • you need to totally build links because it wont carry over
    • Best way to build a new categories for your main website

    Sub Directory
    • Limited only up to 2nd level sub directories

It depends on what you will do with it.. Anyways, the most important thing there is how you will optimize it. Always put sitemap with these two options.

I think u didn't try to submit sub domain in directories. I wanna tell you almost 20 directories out of 100 don't allow sub domains but they allow sub directories. I agree there cud be 4-5 directories out of 100 those don't accept sub directories but it is very less number as compare to sub domain.

I didn't get what do you wanna say?

Same thing you cud do for main domain in very proper way and main benefit u give support ur site with extra content...................

There is no limit if you have genuine reason why are u doing so. And that's depend upon u how you organize sub directories with proper structure................

These are right words. I totally agree with them.................

What are those exactly? It does not carry over the benefits from the primary domain - it's like starting a new domain.

Use subdirectories. To give subdomains SERPs value you'll need to build incoming links to each of them directly as well as the main domain = a lot more work overall.

As an example, would it be better to have forums.scifipie.com or scifipie.com/forums?

    Thanks!
