OKay Guys, need a Urgent Advice... Am moving my old websites from one hosting account to other hosting company. Can you guys give me a bit hint how can i migrate a BIG database like 2 gb website. I made a backup with the help of "backup wizard option" but if am gonna download that backup file, mine whole week gonna crash just to downloads all others websites backups
Ask your host to wget the file to there server.. move your back up (ftp) or cpanel will work to your public html folder change your permissions to at least 755 and then give the host your url for that back up .. http:yourdomain.com/backup-6.26.2008_16-25-18_yourdomain.tar.gz <---should look something like that . then have your new host log into ssh and wget the file.like this or if you have ssh access wget http://yourdomain.com/backup-6.26.2008_16-25-18_yourdomain.tar.gz then restore the back up.. /scripts/restorepkg yourusername if they have created your account it will ask you to do a forced back up and it will give you the command to do that. hope this helps.. it is much faster then you down loading and uploading to the server.. dont pay 35.00 to do it.. ask your host
Thanks Iwhic Am gonna try this now... Ps: comon sweet rascals , sometime we have to think about M box...
ok one more thing i for got to mention is your name servers have to still resolve to the old host for this to work.. if they do not point to your old host then use the ~username option if that is enabled..
For migrating websites from one hosting company to another, i got these steps, but still i dont understand some step and really hosting support tickets have so late response... I was trying after login into ssh via putty root@server [~] cd /home/ root@server [/home]# ftp ftp> and after this step, i put mydomainname.com from old account eg www.dontgetscammed.net and thats what i got.... ftp> dontgetscammed.net ? invalid command So tell me please where am wrong ??? jesus... can any please provide me step by step method ???
Iwhic, Most servers would not allow 2 GB files to be downloaded using wget/http. @Pammer, Backup the account. From new server login to old server account's FTP. Use - get backup.zip if backup is in home of account, or /public_html/backup.zip if it is in public_html. Restore it using WHM , or SSH (SSH would be better at handling such a large backup) You may even try stopping apache/mysql , till the backup is restored , to prevent the server from crashing. Ishan
Ok, I would try to correct this.. Be sure you are puttying to your new server.. root@server [~] cd /home/ root@server [/home]# ftp ftp> ----------------------- ftp> open dontgetscammed.net ftp> ls -l [It will list your file from /home/dontgets directory of old account, I am assuming the default username and this the f*** meaning of the ls, you can refer it as do a ls ] ftp> cd public_html [Only if your backup is in public_html, you do not need if the backup file is in your home directory] ftp> get backup_file_name* [ * The file name listed with ls -l] Hope this helps! -Vijay
