Hi, I've noticed that on some websites instead of linking to the next page simply like "about.html" they will link to the full url, like "http://www.xyz.com/about.html". I was just wondering, which kind of link is better in terms of SEO? Or is there no difference? Thanks for any help
when i link ( cross linking ) to other pages on MY site, I usually do 1. within text of an article OR near top or near bottom as "other relevant chapters" and then 2. use real keywords as anchor text keywords fitting into the text of that individual page PLUS match major keywords of the page linked to - hence for example I use 1-3 keywords of the main title or a subtitle of the linked to page.
I haven't seen this kind of example till now. I don't think so it's any kind of any seo term. Might be it's lake of awareness.......................
Thanks for the replies. All I really meant to ask is this - is it better to link directly to one of your pages like "about-us.html" or is it best to link to the full URL? "http://www.xyz.com/about-us.html"? I would have thought the first one would be the best to use? Thanks again for any help
The advantage of using the full URL with the your domain is when someone scrapes your site and posts it on another domain. If you don't have the domain as part of your URL then your entire site can easily be placed on someone else's domain. If you use the full URL then all the links from the other site will still point back to your site. The disadvantage of using the full URL is that your development and test environment links will point to production unless you have some code or system that knows where you are and which domain to put in the links. I use the full URL with http and the domain, but my software can tell what server I'm on and replace the domain with the proper one for the environment.
