I'm blonde and although I understand the worth of dot com domains, I would like to register an INFO domain since it's to provide information about my professional services, information about useful resources and a bit of information about people who are providing me with them. Do you think it is worth a worth buying a short INFO domain for such task, or I should better go with a long and maybe hyphened dot COM, or even best (or worst) an hyphened dot US that I already own. However, this US domain belonged to someone else and someone told me that using this domain is giving some credit to that person, and obviously I want to promote myself, not someone else if that person don't pay me, LOL Even though I believe INFO domains belong to information and because I will never sell my site, I don't see the point of the COM at all.
Buying any domain should be short as possible, easy to remember and have some thing to do with what your going to put on the domain.
I don't see anything wrong with .info as long as its short and to the point. makemetaller.info is a popular forum that is getting well over a few million visitors each month.
Avoid hyphenated domains, strive for the dot com unless you find a juicy keyword rich .net, .info or .us, make sure people can tell what your site is about just by reading the domain. These are not requirements just rules of thumb
Dear Michelle Michan ! Rules to follow while buying Domain Name 1. Related to the content 2. Short 3. Easy to remember Dot com are always better, but you can change it if the cost is very high Regards Tehmina
Thank you for all your advice guys, At the moment I have this: An hyphenated domain I already own, belonged to someone else for years, but it's a US domain begining with the word pro an hyphen then 6 words keyword, but not my niche plus I don't want to pass advertising to the old owner for free, LOL I found an available INFO that is five letters followed by pro, this domain han no hyphen and reflects exactly my niche and content. And all dot com that come to my mind are at least eight letters before or after the world pro, that I will like to include as part of the name, and that is my concerned, such a long names might not be easy to remember. Maybe the INFO is te best choice, hoping it converts well.
I would stick with .com. However it depends somewhat on how you hope to obtain leads for your professional services. If you generally get leads through word of mouth or print/radio ads you need an easy to remember or descriptive .com (as this is the TLD that people remember) with no dashes. If your leads are obtained online through organic search or SEM then dashes can be fine as a more descriptive URL can be helpful for SEO/SEM. In this case a .info would be fine as well. In my opinion a .info is not something I would want on a business card unless it was one word or phrase. Im not sure I understand your question about the .us? If you own the domain and have your own content on it then you arent passing any advertising on to them -- rather they would be passing advertising on to you.
Ah yes, the domain is now mine and it has my own content, although I deactivated the nameservers while resolving if that's okay. I found the US is still indexed by Google and returns 129 results if the name is quoted and 263,000 for the term, let's say "pro-example" but here comes my concern about passing advertising that you say is not that way and, another fact, it is a US extension and I'm not sure if US ranks below INFO although for sure below the dot COM The INFO I found is not registered yet, but the word, let's say "exampro", returns 1,570 results if quoted without extension, and 211,000 if the suggestion for "exam pro" is taken Adding INFO to the query it returns 1 result, someone who already registered "e-exampro.info", a sales copy website. And I can't find still a shorter dot COM, that adding PRO before or after is going beyond 10 characters long
