I've tried it. Just because something is known or popular, doesn't make it good.

Me posting here means nothing, as I value content over silly software.

Well, from paid options I would say vBulletin or Invision, but probably vB would win here because it is easier to customize (mainly for SEO purposes).

Free ones - I would always go with phpBB3 over SMF or myBB. phpBB3 offers valid and semantic code and a huge community with great support.

Moreover, SMF and myBB websites look really old. Like they haven't changed them in years...

Mybb changed their site just this year sir.

Maybe you need to take a fresh look. It's also running the new 1.4 version which is slated to be publically released very soon. If you get a chance..I advise you get it and try the new admincp. Totally rebuilt from scratch.

I am also running smf. Its theme is very boring. It is difficult to change the theme.

I started with PHPBB. Had a tough time with template modifications.

Switched over to VB and so far i am happy with what i have had. Its worth the money.

    Good decision.
If you ever need a mod installed/configured/customized or template work done for vbulletin, drop me a note.

You asked about which forum software, then right when you find one, you become an sudden fanboy. Makes me wonder if you were already a vB user.
(To other users: There's more to this then what's seen...)

It usually takes a newbie to become a "sudden fanboy" after reading a few reviews and directions while as knowledgeable developers know well what they are after. And a software like vBulletin has proved over the years that it can handle high end web projects without problems. At a cost, of course.

Same with IPB. Same with other software that is needed with different uses.

The OP pretty much made it clear to me. He thinks something is the best without knowing any other choices.

That statement places you in the IPB fans yard. Nothing wrong about it at all.

I chose IPB for the great design and for being user-friendly. VB is also very good, but I think isn't very user-friendly. :)
