TheVccMatey is reminding you out of good will, too much of the same thread basically destroys the readability of a forum. Try to look for a similar thread to post instead of starting a new one.

If they release CuilSense minus a ridiculous Terms of Service, they'll have my full support.

Until then, no, they can't beat Google.

    Hello....

At this moment in time.... not even close!

This engine will have to figure out the correct Images that the site comes from and also
make the searches better as they are horrible when trying to find info.

I suppose time will only tell :)

I think the news releases were premature for cuil. They have to have a 'working' site to even be noticed and with the mixmatched images it is looking stupid.

on one hand, keep in mind this is a technology demonstration. On the other hand, the CEO blew an apparently large percentage of the $33M in funding on sports cars and food, so I am very skeptical that it will develop into anything before imploding.

It's a good marketing tactic to create anticipation and buzz, something cuil has done a good job of, but they should have had it to a state where totally unrelated pornographic pictures are not shown when searching benign queries. I think this, the unavailability and the poor quality of the search results will prevent many people from returning, even after the site is operational and problems worked out.

It seems to me that there are an awful lot of people on this site that are can't stand the constraints google places on them, and are hoping day and night that someone will deliver a platform that replaces google. We have a lot of people here that WANT cuil to be the "google killer".

But let's be real, Google has undoubtedly assigned people to look at cuil to see if there are any lessons to be learned. If there are, google's going to get them implemented much more quickly than cuil could possibly do. Realistically, though, the big difference appears to be the presentation of the results. If it turns out to be wildly popular, google, live, yahoo, etc, will all look like that soon too.

The chances of a "google killer" are so close to zero, it's not worth mentioning. Google had the ability to grow up and mature as the internet grew and matured. Simply from a technology infrastructure standpoint, it's difficult to imagine a start up company being able to invest the hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure to support the load in anticipation of the flood of traffic, let alone the cost of talent to develop the back end software of such a "google killer".

So, it could be said that Google has established a natural monopoly. The competition just hasn't died yet.

In closing, please please please stop the "Google killer" threads. It's not happening. At least no time soon.

My first impression of Cuil - what a crap name...

Second one, don't like the layout.

But nevertheless I'll reserve judgement on its uses until I see how it develops over the next couple of years.

Maybe it will be just as useless as Ask, maybe not.

It's going to take such a massive financial investment though to go someway to offering something unique in search engines, and I would imagine that they end up selling some of their patents to Microsoft and then take a bow.

IMHO, Instead of making such a large impact on everyone with the media, they should have gained the respect with quality services.

    The search engine sucks.

What's very impressive is the amount of media attention Cuil managed to get. New York Times, BBC, they're all over the place. How many other companies with a total failure of a product would be able to get this much press? I think they should repurpose themselves as PR brokers.
