IMO - several pending links waiting for approval is best.

Zero pending links probably means either your directory is completely unknown to the world (when there's spammers about, this is highly unlikely:rolleyes:) or that you 'Select All' and click 'Approve' - pending links at least make it appear like you might be reviewing sites prior to approving them. Though whether you do review them is told by the sites already listed;)

I don't think so. Queue stats along with the new listing page can and do impact whether or not I submit. One indicates possible wait times and the other shows if they are truly reviewing.

    It tells me a lot:

    1. Desperate webmasters spamming the directory
    2. The directory owner can't cope with the amount of submissions
    3. Review times are slow
    4. My directory won't get in/get ROI for months, perhaps years
    5. It's badly managed resource if they can't review sites on time
    6. Review times are slow because the paid ones get dealt with first
    7. Few or likely no staff to review sites
    8. The owner has lost motivation for his creation
    9. It's worthless and it doesn't work

Either the directory owner is making a good effort at reviewing submissions, directory is poorly promoted, or something is broke (submit, captcha, etc.).

Depends what your idea of good is and whether it is a free directory or not. If it's a paid directory, then submissions sitting in pending status is not good. If it's a free directory an amount = to or less then 2 days submissions is acceptable. But for the free directories with 3,000 to 20,000 pending links, I would not even waste my time submitting...

Folks, I think he is talking about the directory in his signature. In which case he does have over 1,300 active links and 6 pending links.

From a submitters point of view, having too many pending links looks bad. Those that don't care about high numbers of pending links are probably just directory spammers anyway. But from the looks of it I would say you are doing a good job - especially for a free directory...

yes i was referring to my sig, but mostly in general.

I guess i'm ok with having 10-50 pending as long as its free.

having 1000's pending does not look good.

    Thanks for the replies.
