    Hello,

I decided since I'm new, and want to make a nice reputation for myself, I will make a contribution in a traffic tactic that happens overnight, this is not an on going traffic tactic but will bring anywheres between 1000-3000 unique views to your site that will be active.

    First the Case:

This traffic tactic works best for sites that have some type of interactivity. It won't work that well for strictly content sites trying to make money off adsense or an information product website.

The site I used this tactic for was a 'Tutorial Site'.

So, I spent $600 via Elance for the site to be built, my budget for this site was $1,000 in marketing and advertising.

I also needed some content for the site, so I opened up a Contest at Sitepoint, and in some other forums, 99designs.com, etc.

I put a $250 cash prize to the winner who produces a tutorial and get's the most comments.

I put a $150 cash prize to the winner who produces a tutorial and get's the highest votes.

In this case I cared more about interactivity on the site for getting independent advertisers, so that is why I gave more money to the comments.
Over night, my site flooded with about 30 submissions, and about 700 uniques, soon I started to see comments floating in, votes being submitted, and people trying to win the money.

In all togetherness, it produced around 3,000 unique views in 5 days, and got me about 100 submissions, 340 votes, and 130 comments... Excited much?

That month, I got about 5,000 unique views, and a whole bunch of activity, got 7 advertisers to pay me $50/M to be sponsors of the contests, and I did one more....

    Then Sold the Site...

    got to love business.

    Idea for the infomarketer:

If you have an ebook that you want to sell... do a contest that is related to the ebook topic, so those only interested in that topic will work on the contest, you might get some sales. On top of that you can collect there information in the submission and use it for direct marketing.

Example being, if you have an ebook on "Take Award Winning Photographs", run a photo contest for the best photograph, collect names, award money, market book.

    Guarantee you get some sales.

Well...the actual business model isn't overly strong ($1000 expense to get a quick shot of traffic and $350 revenue) but obviously you made your return through the sale of the site...

    Site Initial Setup - ($600)
    First Contest - ($400)
    Hosting Fee - ($14)

    Paid by Sponsors - $350
    Second Contest - ($350)

Second Month Paid by Sponsors - $350
    Site Sold - $2,150

    Net - $1481

It isn't the best money maker, the traffic is good though and can be better optimized probably, this wasn't really a 'how to make money' post, but that is about what I made net after all said and done. It took me a total of about 12 hours to get advertisers, and about two hours to set up contests.

It can make more money if you design the site yourself, but I didn't want to do that this time.

    So 14 hours - $1,481

This is a better idea than a lot of people might realize.

If you have an enticing affiliate program on your site and you're attracting people who are likely to promote your product the follow on effect could be substantial and ongoing.

In the same way if you have a site that involves an ongoing paid subscription or if you have a really well designed back end selling process again the potential for profit after getting that initial burst of highly targeted traffic could be huge.

    Nice post.

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh
