I think Microsoft were giving away free domains a little while ago for the first year only.. just google it microsoft free domain.. other than that a few seller on the boards are selling some URL's for $1 - $3. Good luck

There was a free domain giveaway (Godaddy) if you signed up for the indy racing newsletter, but I think by now it may be over. Keep your eyes peeled. Dotster, Namecheap...even Register.com do free domain giveaways too. Many times someone will post a thread here on DP...so it may help to utilize the forum search feature. .

With co.cc not all domain name are free, if you choose a popular term in your name domain, maybe it will cost you some money. After you choose your free domain name with co.cc, you have 48 hours to set up the dns or your domain will be cancelled.
I agree, let's say you get it from name.com, that would be $6. You only need to do a couple of articles, around 50 forum posts, or just a really simple logo and you should get that. And then you'll have the .com. Well worth the investment
u can use either yourname.co.nr or yourname.co.cc i recommend u to use yourname.co.cc coz' it supports DNS server , MX Records etc. so that u can make ur own webmail and other things...
