2 domains, same site?

    Hi,

I currently have a website with the domainname: modbase.be
I'm planning to buy a second domainname for that website: modbase.nl

    I have some questions now:

Is it good to do this or not?
Is it better to redirect modbase.nl to modbase.be or just setup 2 nameservers?
Won't google ban me for duplicate content?

    Thanks ;)

Hi, you need to decide what domain you want to use primarily and then permanently 301 redirect the second domain to the first.

If Google sees the same site on two different domains, it'll treat each identical page as a duplicate.

Above post is correct. You will need to redirect and only use 1 domain as your main.
Google will only see duplicate sites.

    Ok thanks for both replies.
I'll redirect my second domain to the first then, because my first domain has a Pagerank of 4/10.

But has it advatages to have 2 domains for 1 website (modbase.be and modbase.nl) because it's only a redirect?

If your traffic primarily comes from these two regions OR if you simply don't
want anyone else to register the second domain name...then yes, it would be a good idea to register it.
    Question:
What first lead you to the decision to register the second name?

2 reasons why I think I'll buy the domain:
    1) Maybe more backlinks/indexed pages/visitors?
    2) Nobody can fake my Dutch website anymore

I have the same thing with two sites and two domain names and have been considering spinning one off as its own site since they now both have a pagerank of 3.

Maybe use one domain for merchandising or a blog?
