From all my years of experience with seo, to me, Search Engine Optimization is all about improving the traffic to a web site from search engines for targeted keywords. Watching how the search engines change is very important, All SEO books have basic Information. Here are some of my recommendations for a good seo book Aaron Wall's SEO Book (www.seobook.com) The Search Engine Marketing Kit (Sold in Sitepoint) I have picked up the SEM Kit. I haven't yet read all of it but I feel its the best single source of SEO Information. Alternative's to buying SEO books are to spend time in; Reading SEO blogs (Matt Cutts Blog) Newsletters, and forum posts etc. There are tons of good blogs about seo, but I haven't seen one that has as much good info and has been updated as frequently for such a long time as Aaron's has. I have read most of the Aaron's Book and now know how to SEO Websites. We are a group of friends who have started a blog, in which I head the webmaster section : - http://www.iwebie.com/category/webmaster and a few sites in my signature...
SEObythesea is my favorite blog to read... I wont spend any dime on DSEO book for all of their contents are already free on some blogs..

I think there are many blog outside there that provide free SEO articles, so why have to buy at high price if you can get it for free... just try to blogwalking or find it through search engine
you can easily learn SEO by just a query and search.. for me seo book was non sense.. being SEO you must be up to date.
