I have a social bookmarking website that I started recently YeaWo (can't add links yet but you will find it if you google it) . The site is meant for Indians and I tried Adwords to get some users. However, so far I haven't had any success in getting many active users. So, most of the users who signed up through the PPC ads visited once, registered and now hardly participate in the website. How can I get more users to vist my website and keep coming back and participating ? I was thinking about giving some gifts or something of that sort so the users that are more active get some sort of incentive but I'm not sure how effective that might be also I have a limited budget so a few hundred dollars is all I can spend, would appreciate opinions on this. Also, there are other established websites that have a lot more users and there really isn't any reason for someone who knows about those sites to visit mine. I have used drigg which is based on drupal and there are quite a few modules for drupal. But, is it really worth it adding more features... esp. from those that are available at drupal ? Do people visiting social bookmarking sites really care about things social networking or groups etc ? Any and all ideas are welcome.
Have you tried going to forums where there are indian related topic and stuff. You can add your signature to your posts and go from there. You can find something that free or cheap to giveaway when they sign up too. I visit lots of social bookmarketing sites through rss feeds that way I can see what happenin out there Bruno
Make useful posts in forums related to your website. Also write some good articles about the theme of your site too.
Thanks for replies. I'm already a member of a few forums will post there and see what sort of response I get from it. But, I really need large amounts of traffic coming in because, social bookmarking takes some effort from the users and most people won't spend too much time on a site thats not very active and the site won't be very active untill there are a lot of users . Anyway I'll keep trying.
one great way to get traffic to your website. it too look for cheap advertising. i am currently offering cheap advertising. this new and fresh Pay Per Click website. we are offering amazing deal for advertisers. which is cheaper than any other PPC website out there. we are also offering a DigitalPoint Only advertising offer for a limited Time. which is 0.99$ for 100 views. this means i get no profit but i get customers. you get double the veiws! it is normally 50 veiws for 0.99$
How new is your website? It can take a few months to start rolling. Just post your link in your signatures wherever you post, submit to directories, actively promote anywhere you can, and stay dedicated. Good luck!
@ pri I've sent you a PM. the websites about 2 months old. I get a few hundred unique visitors every day mainly because of PPC. although I haven't really done any SEO, the site ranks 4-8 for certain keywords ... but I think the problem is that a site like mine really needs a lot more than a few hundred users visiting everyday and also I have to find some way to make them stay once they visit.
Social Bookmarking sites are tough to monetize. People that frequent them are mostly marketers trying to establish back links. Unless you're a big site that gets a lot of traffic, few people are going to go there to look for news. Over time, the traffic will increase. The more marketers know about it, the more traffic you will get and the more people will use it. I know you said you wanted to focus on Indians, is there any particular reason why? You should be able to get media buys for pretty cheap (banner advertising). Advertising on sites with primarily Indian traffic should be inexpensive to purchase.
thanks for your advise... i wanted to keep it limited to India because for one I think there already too many social bookmarking websites that focus of general content thats relevant to everyone in general... also most of these sites are dominated with content thats relevant to the US... Indians visit those sites but there is also so much else thats important to Indians like cricket, blloywood, Indian politics etc which aren't as popular on those sites... now there are already sites that cater to Indians but I guess I'm happier being in this smaller group.
If you are happier being in the smaller group, then use that to your advantage. Advertise that point. think about politics, people get tired of the professional politians and then go back to the less know "little Man" candidate. Your website is the "little man" candidate, let it be known that your not the big group with thousands of onetime visitors. you are the little site that wants to be focused on the things that are important locally. Good luck.
well get an adwords account, put in your credit card details, select keywords, make an ad and submit it. Thats it.
ok is that so, thanks for this information. Even I was looking out for this kind of information about PPC... ----------------------------------- www.internetmarketingdiscountclub.com
You have to make sure your site offers something unique to Indians. The answer to your question lies in your post "Also, there are other established websites that have a lot more users and there really isn't any reason for someone who knows about those sites to visit mine." Find that reason for them. It could be something unique related to Indian festivals, Indian cuisine, Indian fashion or film industry. People who sign up will stay if you give them an experience different from Facebook or Myspace, and since you are catering only to Indians, find something to interest them. Your features and emoticons need to be different, more Indian, customized. And you need to submit articles to blogs and directories that discuss everything Indian, from entertainment to politics, and link back to your site.
try to get more and more links from the forums, articles, blogs,do follow tags, ets, also a bit of R&D of related sites.
Thanks a lot for your advise. I think most of what you said, I already know but just haven't done anything about it. I know I need to change things about my site and was thinking about adding features to my site but most of what I was planning are things other than social bookmarking like basic social networking features, games, groups, reviews etc but, at this point I have decided against it. I just want at this point to improve my site in terms of social bookmarking features, convenience, and improve the look and design. I just think its better to do one thing really well before I move on to the next. Anyway thanks guys for all your help so far and more suggestions are always welcome.
I've thought about this but I don't know how effective offline advertising is. With online advertising I can atleast track if my ads are getting me any results or not, I can see how many people visited how many signed up etc. And to really get some good results from offline advertising one has to spend considerably more, maybe you need to advertise consistently over a few days or so. Thanks though ... good advise nonetheless.
