I was hosting 2 domain names, but when the hosting expired a few months ago I decided not to renew. The domain names are still in my name and I would like to park them instead of just letting them sit there. My parking company say that I need to log in and redirect them, but as I do not have webhosting I cannot log in. The parking is free and I do not want to pay for webhosting if I am not using the names to create a site. How can I park these names?
Most registrars like godaddy / netsol etc let you park for free.. you dont need hosting for this but you just need to log into your domain registrar a/c where they are registered.. some small registrars dont allow this though especially if they try to tie you into a hosting + domain package.
Parking has nothing to do with hosting, really. YOu sign up with a parking service, they give you DNS to assign to your domains, so essentially they're hosting for you
Expanding on what has already been posted... yes all you need to do is sign up for a parking account where you will also collect the revenue and once accepted point the name servers to the parking company which should all be explained at the parking company website. Keep in mind if you park at Godaddy or similar registers then you are not collecting the revenue, they are unless you pay a fee. There are quite a few parking companies although many prefer to see a solid portfolio before they accept you. A few you can try are Sedo, Fabulous and Parked.com otherwise search for "Parking".
sign up to sedo , namedrive , parked.com and just set the respected nameservers hosting is not required as you can do this in domain registrar account
What most have already said is pretty accurate. I think that 2-4-K touched on an important subject...where are the domain names registered? Are they registered and hosted with the same place? In other words, is your registrar also your host? It's always a good idea to have the domain names registered with a reputable (well known) registrar. It might also a wise idea to host somewhere other than where they are registered; simply because you could risk losing access to your domain names should you decide to cancel hosting. If you have the domain names registered separately from your previous hosting, then the advice you have already received should not be difficult to implement: Apply for the parking programs. Once accepted, copy the server address. Just log in to your account (with the registrar) and edit the DNS info... replace with the server address that you copied (usually at least two are required...most of the time they start with "NS1." and "NS2.") If on the other hand, you're in the more complicated situation registrar = former hosting... Then use the registrar support contact info to reach the registrar branch and see if they will work with you. Basically, if your access panel was combined (hosting + registrar), then you are at their mercy. .
I used a company to park the domain names until they expired. I was using redirect, but now I am no longer have that webhosting. I would like to stay with the same parking company as I have already earned money with them. The parking company is saying that I should change the name server, but my previous webhost says that they can't do that. My previous webhost says that I need to at least have mailhosting with them, but I think I should be able to do this for free as the domain names are in my name. All I got from my previous host is an authorization code, but as far as I understand, that is for transferring to another webhosting company.
I'm new to this parking without hosting. How do you earn money from parking companies? And why will they have to pay? In other words, how does it work?
That depends where you register your domain name? Do they offer DNS hosting or URL forwarding? You can park your domain with sedo and make some easy money
I registered my domain names with the same company when I took out the webhosting. I spoke with them the other day and the only thing they offered me was an authorization code. If I still had webhosting with them it would be straight forward. I could probably use either of the methods you mentioned.
you can park at sedo.com for free . signup for a free account and change the nameservers of your domains to the nameservers given by them and you can even earn money by parking with them. they will place their ads in the parked domains and they pay you when someone clicks their ads . for example see www.plantlistings.info it is parked with sedo.com
Now it's clear to me how one can make money from domain parking. That's interesting but not something I can go for.
I have already signed up with another parking provider and am halfway to getting paid. How do I change the nameserver?
you have to go to your domain registrar(website at which you registered the domain ) login and at your control panel you can see option to change name servers or contact your registrar
You seem to be missing the point. How can I log in? I no longer have a contract with them. The question is, how to park my domain names if I do not have web hosting.
I think the webhost has spoken. It seems that you will not be grant you access unless: 1) You pay for webhosting; or at least mailhosting 2) You transfer it elsewhere and access it from there. This is not unheard of. This is rather typical when you get both registration + hosting at the same place and then discontinue hosting before you have attended to the domain names. IF the domain names are valuable to you, then I suggest you use the authorization code and transfer them elsewhere. You could also get hosting or mail hosting for the minimum amount of time...long enough to edit the DNS. If they are "throwaway", you might consider letting them sit around till they expire. Other than that, you can start a writing campaign. In other words, make as much noise (tactfully) as you can and maybe the registrar/host will give you access just to get you off their back. .
