I'm using Joomla 1.5 on one project. Personally, I think it's pretty nice. However, invariably you'll come across something that you think should be easy, and it fact it is hard or impossible. At that point you're left with a compromise or writing a plugin or module yourself to make it do what you want. There is a pretty broad user base though a lot of plugins written already, which helps. Version 1.5 seems much better than Joomla 1.0

I use Joomla on many projects, and it's really nice - especially if you are not an experienced programmer. Experienced programmers tend to prefer Drupal, however Joomla has a very very very large collection of amazing components and modules you can install to make Joomla work the way you want it to. The CMS is easy to use and very very powerful. You can't go wrong with Joomla.

I managed to write a simple joomla plugin in only a few hours, and I would not consider myself an experienced programmer. He's right about the fact that you do NOT need to know PHP or any other language to configure and use Joomla.

I think you'll be happy. Joomla has many components for shopping carts, and even for paypal ipn if you want to support paypal.

Virtuemart is a shopping cart similar to amazon.com that handles shipping orders, taxes, discounts, coupon codes, etc - it's really fantastic.

Absolutely! I have been using Joomla well over a year now. There's a slight learning curve, but the community is awesome, there are tons of extensions, and extensions are pretty easy to write.

Thanks guys, Im getting to like this Joomla. I went on their site and it doesn't say anything about paying for it.

Is Joomla free or is it only a demo and you have to pay for it?

Cool! So which installer do I download, all of them? If it's obvious then maybe the highest version number which is at the bottom:

    Joomla_1.5.3_to_1.5.4-Stable-Patch_Package.zip.

    Hope this is right.

If you're installing from scratch, you'll probably want to start with Joomla_1.5.4-Stable-Full ...

Or something like that. The package you mentioned is a patch to upgrade from version 1.5.3 to 1.5.4.

The first time you install a package, you always want to get the latest Stable Full.

    Then upgrade with patches.
