On the Google Webmaster Tools I see for one of my sites : Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Jul 11, 2008

But when I check my logfiles, I see Google visits my site daily!

And this is actually for all my sites. I have a site which is small and not updated for about 1 year now. When checking the logfiles I see that Google come about every 2 or 3 days. And still it says : Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Jun 03, 2008

Is the info that Google last sucessfully accessed your home page usefull?

Google webmaster does not provide realtime data, so dont need to think too much. If Google bot is coming, then its fine, no problem with your website. :)

Well also, its ur index, or homepage, Google visits my site nearly the second I update, but the bot doesn't always enter via the index..

Webmaster is great no doubt but you can not relate it much with Google search results and Google crawling.

Google may crawl your website 10 times a day but webmaster will always show previous dates.

Ha, so with "accessed your home page" it means the actuall index.html file. (or index.php or whatever).

    That makes in more clear.

But still, I don't really care about that.

Yeah, the info is not real time and I wouldn't rely too much on it.

I mainly use the webmaster tool to see specific keywords people searched for and what was my SERP for them.

    It's really useful.

Webmaster tools does not give real time updates. Be it crawl details or backlinks.

Google bots keep crawling sites and also pick backlinks but it takes time to update.

It's not from Google webmaster but from other tracker like Statcounter on your website where you can track Google activity on your website.

Googlebot uses different IPs. Googlebot visit is not much of a concern. You should be more concern on the number of pages that Googlebot has indexed from your site.

    1. Actually Google has few different bots if you ever noticed.
    2. Every visit - different depth of visit. It can check if your index page updated or it can even index a message/comment of 63-d page in a deep topic at your forum of your site for example.
    3. Imagine how many sites are in the world that Google is sending bots to - think how would it be to update info at Google WebMasters tools for every site every day. Imagine? huh, I think so too.

    Cheers!

    there are some reasons.

1- Google Webmaster Tools is not perfect.
2- there may be a visit of adsense bot, webmaster tool is still not perfect.
