I'm curious, why do people choose to pay $10 a year, when you can pay $6 with another registrar? What services does GoDaddy offer that the others don't? I'm considering transferring my domains to GoDaddy only because it seems like that's the one that everyone uses (would make it a lot easier to sell domains to people). Is this the main reason why everyone else chooses GoDaddy (because it's mainstream)?
I used GoDaddy before I knew any better... I found NameCheap much easier and faster to use. They don't offer you upsells and cross-sells throughout the checkout process, for one thing.
I don't really know why I use it. When I first started, thats the place I was referred to, then it just sort of stuck..
Currently, GoDaddy offers the cheapest available domains on the internet. Of course, there are some promotions here and there by other companies, but they are just to attract audience. GoDaddy is a monopoly with domains just as PayPal is with payment processors.
I use godaddy because thats what most people use (it's extremely easy to find buyers for your domains). And honestly I found GoDaddy to be the cheapest at $7.15 including ICANN fee with coupon. What seller offers you $6 domain registrations?
They seem very stable and trustworthy. I would hate to have my domains be lost due to a cheap and unprofessional registrar, that won't happen with GoDaddy (hopefully).
pffft godaddy sucks. http://www.nodaddy.com i pay 6.85 with fabulous without coupons. i get great support. they do what i ask and dont try and sell me other crap. in fact, they dont even sell other crap. as far as easier to sell? if your domains are good, any registrar pretty much will do, good domains sell themselves. almost every registrar these days has free transfer between accounts and free accounts. as far as everyone using it... maybe in public. do you see large guys using them? no, if you really care about your domains you generally don't use godaddy. follow the smart money, not the stupid money (average customer who isn't dealing with domains a lot). no offense to those who use it, but i dont trust them one bit and transfer any domain away from immediately. Some good (well lets be honest, better) alternatives: Fabulous - if you manage sizable/good portfolio and do PPC this is a registrar for you. Basically registrar is a bonus to their PPC platform and it's not for everyone. If you can get in it's the best registrar in terms of pricing, support and security. Downsides: no whois privacy, only com/net/org/info NameCheap - Been around a long time, used by a lot of people because they are good to their customers. competitive pricing, good support and an owner who is a domainer. Why does that matter? Because he goes above and beyond to support his customers and resolves problems personally. He also knows your view and designs things with customer in mind. Enom/Moniker - fairly decent, competitive pricing if you are registering at any volume (easier to get discount at moniker through their promotions, or just email asking for better pricing - that works on a lot of registrars btw). both have good interfaces as well as good bulk management tools.
I don't know why I use godaddy... I suppose their superbowl ads had me hooked Kidding. The interface is clean, there are plenty of coupon codes, there's an affiliate program through CJ, the interface is responsive, sites populate within hours, and I'm just used to it. I think it's pretty good in my opinion, but it is a bit more pricey compared to others out there.
Yes Godaddy are $6.95 + Icann fee with a coupon and I think they became popular due to good marketing, a fairly solid website and service but I'm sure it has been all the coupons that have made them popular the most. There are other registers that are just as good or better though but you know they are pretty reliable.
Because it is fast and easy to use. Also if you are going to be in the domain business then you need godaddy or moniker otherwise you will find it hard to sell some of your not so good domains.
ease of access... its not worth paying less and then realizing down the line that your domains aren't even there or the customer service doesn't know how to work the server... its worth the knowledgebase... ..also, they're competitive and are about the same as any other registar.. 0_o
Godaddy is a tricky company...use somethign else, there are plenty of other options with similar prices (register.com, fabulous.com, domainsite)
I find godaddy's dns server one of the fastest updating around which means any changes to a sites name servers get propagated real fast well for me they do.
Godaddy runs deals often and there are coupons always available that you can find easily on DP or through google. The interface to manage your domains and other info is good once you're used to it. But mostly I like them because of familiarity and because I've never had a problem with them.
