If you do not know much about the whole internet world then I would say use that $500 to train yourself. Because if you dont you will lose it anyway and not get much training.

But, first, train without buying any domain (Microsoft Frontpage, perhaps?) and ask to your friends if they like it. The idea is that you need to aim a specific age group (yours, preferably), then creating LOTS of content. This content would be on a specific subject you're good in, for example video games. Your objective here is to be a «reference» to some persons. They will get used to your site, and your site's value will increase. Or you can simply keep it and try a per-click add-on to get money. You can invest it in different ways, like partnering with someone and hope the business will go well or buy a website like a 3 letter domain and wait a few years and you got more than $1k in your pocket. Personally I have earned 1.9k+ by selling my 12 year old domain 3 letter domain, is easy to invest but is hard to wait.
