I don't think directory submission will help to get ranking on SERPS infect now a days google doesn't like that kind of links and it's just use for cache your website not more then yaa I'm agree with that point if you getting link from some of the big directories or popular one then it might be helpful

Yes of course the Directory Submission also importance in SEO..............

 

As people have said there are so many different ways to get your website out there and noticed. Articles, directories, Do-follow blogs and more. Certain people think certain things are stronger - which they are, but i think the key is to do everything. Not too much or too little. An article can really put some power in, but directories boost your website in another way. People find you and offer links.

 

Directory submission can help your site in getting backlinks. As we know, backlinks is one of the factor in serp ranking.

Directory Submission sites are very essential to your website its a good source of backlinks and google really based on your backlinks for your rankings.

 

Manual submissions are better than automated one?
What does the difference? I mean how one can differentiate the manual submissions and automated submissions.

The danger of the dir submission is that all links will lead to the same main page and have the same anchor text. So for a new websites (without other older links) it cannot be that positive from the SEs point of view.
