Hello, Scorpiono here - I'll try not to act silly, I've found posts like "would you cut a finger for 50,000$" but the truth is, I'd like to know this:

Would you pay $100-199 for a script like wordpress (or anything else - it's not strictly to blogging), if it would have not been free, and the only one on the market?

No, Wordpress is quite good, but its like comparing PhpBB3 forums to IPB forums. You can get a great set of forums (phpBB) for free and they run great, but they have quite a few bugs and glitchs, but with a paid forum board (IPB) your getting top of the line everything.

One of the reasons I like Wordpress is because its free, if it cost money I would look to spend my money on a better some better blogging script.

I was mentioning that it's the only script type at the moment - you have no alternative assuming - or not a very similar one at least.

I'm asking this because I'm planning to launch a very good product in end septemeber/october 2008 - and it will be a blast! I'm in research stage atm.

I would not pay for any blog script, if at worst I would make my own. Though this is mainly becuase I tend not to use blogs to much. Partly becuase I dont see the point, The partly becuase I just dont have the time.

I don't know to much about creating one myself, so I probably would pay that much. As long as I could use it over and over again.

I would probably make one myself rather than pay that much.

Personally I feel that if Wordpress was the only blog script available I'd just ditch the blog altogether and just have a forum :p

I love Wordpress but if I had to pay a lot of cash for it, then I wouldn't. If it was under a hundred dollars, then I probably would but I wouldn't buy a script if it was over 100 dollars.

No, buying a script over $100.00 just for such a customizable version, doesn't seems like a good investment to me. I wouldn't pay to buy it, maybe if its around $50.00, then I may but otherwise not.

Thinking about it... if Wordpress cost much, it would probably be much more "formed" and overall better, so it might be worth $50...

Joomla, if you know how to use it, is also very powerful.

I don't think I would buy anything I could get for free (or similiar).

HOWEVER, if I couldn't get it free, I'd probably attempt to create something similiar myself. If that failed, I'd consider forking over the money, depending on how much I liked/wanted it.

Short answer, no. I wouldn't pay for WordPress because there are other ways to blog that I could do myself. Your script probably isn't for blogging though, so....

Long answer, yes. If the script is good and provides something I couldn't piece together myself (e.g. vBulletin, which I do pay for), I'd consider buying it (as long as there was a good potential ROI of course).

If wordpress was the only thing available, and nothing else existed, then yeah - I'd pay for it. My time is much better spent developing content rather than building (stuggling with) a template.

Definately not. Make your own, even then you could sell it on like your suggesting. Im sure there are people that would pay for it.

Nope, I would not pay that sort of money for Wordpress. I do not even use Wordpress, when it is free so I do not think I would get it if you had to pay for it!

I think if you had to pay for Wordpress, we would be seeing many other blog starting websites out there like Wordpress that are free instead of paying the big fee!

Wordpress works so well, because it is free and really it is hard now with Wordpress the main leader to really tap into the blog starting market. I am sure a lot of companies would be starting scripts like Wordpress though if there was no Wordpress, or if we had to pay for it.

So you say that under <$100 is a decent price for an unique script.
