The Window's 7 excitement...

I've seen some people getting pumped up about Window's 7.

Just a general question for everyone...

What do you expect out of Window's 7?

I rather disagree with that. Despite being a WinXP user for the past few years (I never adopted Vista), I have to say that XP is practically a dinosaur when it comes to OS. Sure, it's somewhat stable (it's had several years to develop that stability) but it's not the most efficient performance-wise, nor is it the most secure. Windows 7, though, promises to be Microsoft's most efficient and secure OS to date. And, if MS keeps their word, it should not have most of the problems and compatibility issues that Vista had. Of course, actual details are sketchy as it is all hush-hush for now. :)

To answer the OP's question, my number one wishlist for Windows 7 is that they get rid of the messy WGA/WPA. Or at least use a better system. I understand the reason behind it, but it's caused more trouble for genuine users than for pirates. >_<

If they can't put something out that is at least as good as OS X, then they are in trouble.

Agree somewhat with Syd_M. If they can make a super-optimized version of XP then I will get excited. No offense intended to vista users.

For now. But... see you in 3-4 years! Everyone will use/develop WPF, which runs damn slow on XP, but it's native to Vista ;)

It's not just about games, it's about new UI.

Windows 7 will finally take care of performance issues (if Microsoft keeps its word). No longer will they have to use emulators for their 3D effects (like what they do in Vista) which basically causes system lag. And instead of having how many multi million lines of code. It will be condensed into a few million lines. This all leads to better performance and stability and less code for people to try and hack.

I'm hoping they do a overhaul of the kernel and file system so we are actually getting something new, not just a rehash of previous technologies with bolt ons here and there

From the screenshots published, it looks like MS stole some ideas from Apple once again. Notice the similarity of the dock?

Actually Singularity will rock, but when they will release it, maybe in 5-6 years, I hope.

XP is still the most stable.
Vista works good for me as well, but dunno why...XP remains the one I prefer.

As long as its better than Vista, I think we all should be excited. Vista just does nothing for me and I am thrilled with XP (not saying much though). Windows 7, for Microsofts sake, needs to be better, more secure, less of a resource hog, than Vista.
