    Silly idea

It's an opinion of hosts themselves. The people running it who's to say they're not honest either?

You're just creating another one of those top 100 web hosts sites where hosts are running it or the top 100 are paying for their spots. Only difference here is you're trying to determine who is fraudulent.

Oh and web hosting talk does not verify members who post ad's. It just states you cannot offer unlimited services and you need x amount of posts. They also limit ad's to once per 7 days and are very strict about self promotion outside the designated advertising sections.

    >> Lol, lol. Some guy mentioned that he might be a bot.
    >> *shrugs* Who knows? Unless mentos can come up here and explain himself, in perfect Queen's English.

    >> Then maybe not.

    >> Until then, well...

I'm just curious. How do you guys judge and differentiate between a good host, and a rotten one?

Not to be nit picky but I did post about this ABOVE your post in the mellow host thread ;) The point is regardless of that, the level of scams needs to be brought into check.

Hi, guys there is no 100% way to know weather or not you will be scammed..This is going to go back on you to do the research (or let SHF do the research) to find out if there is a potential scam host or not..People may feel like they have been scammed when indeed it was a honest mistake or a mis understanding or what ever. But it is very important to to do your research on any host.

Here is a few guides that may be helpful.

Now see, we aren't doing it for money. We don't charge anything. And at the moment, it's just us hosts testing it and 2 others who aren't hosts but if it even looks like the tester has been bias then they get given the boot ;)

We'll show you the test eventually :p

Well I think something you need to understand is this, they are not reviewing their own sites. They are not ranking hosts. They are simply testing them and seeing just how good they are. I think it is awesome because if the host can't pass a simple unbiased test then they need to do some work to make sure they can.

Everything about this is innovative, it's completely unbiased & fair. I agree, if you're confident you run a good hosting company then submit it for testing...

More folks need to sign up to the forum, get some discussion going & submit their hosts: http://stophostingfraud.com <---- JOIN NOW.

They control the tests and they control who is honest. Right there they are bias towards their company's. The test or whatever could be geared so that they pass the test. So it might not be reflective of who is honest at all. They also may just say they are honest when they are in fact not.

The supposedly unbiased sites are never really that way. The supposedly non bias http://hostjury.com/ site has people now claiming they are in fact bias towards the company of the person who runs it. A unbiased site (reasonable anyways) would need to be run by someone without any ties to any company and also have no revenue of any kind coming from a hosting company (no affiliate links no nothing)

Not just 'now', rather since the sites' inception in fact. The site was launched prior to my company even beginning and at that time they were screaming bias towards my employers at that time.

No site can be completely free of bias and quite frankly, if there's no reward in it for the owners (even non-profits pay their employees) it'll die off soon enough. There's a certain degree of funding that has to be met by any project including Hostjury. I'd still consider the site unbiased (even though I operate some aspects of it and still run a host) because the ratings are based on the end-user reviews rather than affiliate payouts.

Yes -- we still have to pay for developers, bandwidth and servers in the end so the site isn't something we can operate free of charge -- but we still give end-users the voice, not our ourselves.

Whoa, I was thinking of doing this kind of site but had to put it behind =/ great idea. Although I don't think listing the fraudulent host is enough. It's time to start orientating people what is overselling and what is a "trap host".

Another way to check if the business is new is:

    1) Whois the domain, it's just common practice for these people to just buy another domain and rebrand everything. They mostly forget to change the ip address. (at least the ones with no experience)
    2) Trace the ip, ask them their ip address (of their hosting) and track where is the datacenter and stuff like that.

This is really a rare sight but it worked for me a few times:
    3) Some registrars like NameCheap(love them!) have ZERO TOLERANCE with fraudulent sites, they will either terminate the account or suspend it, etc etc, their decision. That is you have to show solid proof and certainty of what has happened.

Cheers! I'll register later on :)

I do not know what all the test that Cameron has came up with...Even though i was helping with the site I am not sure if i may agree with all aspects of it.. If one person has a misunderstanding with a host then what they are now on the fraud list..That is not he way it should go.. or if a host does not want to give out a free trial then they must have something to hide and go to the fraud list.. I dont agree with that. Then i guess i will be in that fraud list as well because i dont give free trails out any more no mater what the reason, to may abusive people out there to give trials to..
I think what we need is just a forum where any body can go and discusses the different hosts in a non formal way no advertising and not judge anyone and leave it up to the buyer in the end to decide based on what ever they feel is best.
