For an e-commerce business I'm sure .com is still the best way to go but for affiliate marketing, does it really matter? I'm thinking for an affiliate marketing website, it really woulnd't matter if it was .net .info or whatever else. What is everyone's opinion? Please note whether you are an affiliate marketer or not and how much experience you have. Thank You
Depnds on how you plan to brand it. I once sold a four letter .com domain name that I'd had for 10 years for $30K. The guy thought it was worth it. And he's probably right. He's been in this business a long time.
Hello randykougher. We just wrote on our blog about this yesterday. When you select a domain name the domain name is the first part of developing any online presence so we hope you would want to look down the road 2, 5, or even 10 years. We think that a domian name should always be a .com with no hypens and be simi memorable. Because today you or us do not know if you are going to need to have a name that we will be communicating via TV or radio even printed materials as well as over the telephone and if you do not have it simple you are going to have a really hard time converting people to actually remember how to find you. We also think web site using a .com sale for more money. Our experiance we offer an affiliate site for our own product line. We are 15 years old and been buying domain names for over 11 years. We also own a lot of .com domain names here Domain Name Portfolio nothing for sale there. Also we have a site 11 steps to buying great .com domian names again nothing for sale just educational information to help you randykougher here Domain Name Help Logic
.com is ALWAYS the best to describe your commercial online website. Anyway, .com is actually dedicated to "commercial site" though
I think .com is by far still the best option for business related websites; and I would include affiliate marketing in that category. Next, would be .net in my opinion. It also depends on what your focus is going to be. If you are wanting to review products via a blog then .info might be a good option. Even so, .com is probably still the best choice, if for no other reason than when typing a site into the address bar they have heard about or have been to before almost every person will try a .com name before any other extension.
if you're planning to sell the site in the future, having a .com domain will get you more money for it. I also had a site with a .org domain and a lot of people entered the .com by mistake.
People might remember the name of your site, and link it with the middle part of your URL, but anything but .com will only distract them. And as Nosfer said, if you have an .info or .org site people will keep looking for your page assuming you have a .com domain.
What if the .com domain name I want and similar are already taken? Secondly, how much is US based community familiar with .eu domains? Branding would do the trick?
answer: it depends. if youre going all SEO and arent trying to keep customers coming back or have other mechanisms for retention, owning a top .com might not be that big a deal (at the start). it aso has to do with budget, time frame, and other variables. no concrete answer to your question
This topic has been beaten to death. I swear there is a post almost every day about this yes. Yes, .com is the best for branding and type-in traffic and it all depends on you as far as SEO goes. Use the search function for basic topics like this.
As far as seo goes then.. no it doesnot matter.... i have many .info domains on the first page of google listing Ani
If you are investing on this ecommerce site, don't save on the domain name. Choose a .com easy to remember.
It does matter actually... its like a Toyota versus a Mercedes... Toyota does the work pretty nicely but we all know that Mercedes is "the standard"
First of all, thank you all for help. Unfortunately, most of the domains with the needed keyword, that make sense, are taken by some company, person or domain registrar. In this case I don't have enough money nor I'm willing to pay few hundred/thousand dollars to buy certain domain name. Since it not about the next Twitter or LinkedIn it doesn't make sense. Well, maybe something good will come up in my head.
