Do links in Forum signatures help SERP?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by Rblakney, Jul 9, 2008.

I have been building backlinks for my site for the past two months, and I just recently did a backlink analysis on them and while they show up, most of them have a PR of 0. Many of them are from my signature in forum posts (Digital Point as well as others that do not have nofollow).

My question is, does this really help my SERP at all? I would think these would be low PR and since there are many coming from simular sites, Google would not count them much. Is that true?

    Thanks.

this question have been asked many time here on the forum, just use the search feature and read the previous comments.

it will help you a bit but will take you long time and many many posts to see some backlinks

I think they help with traffic to your site, but don't help much with SEO.

They defienately help, but they must be used alongside reciprocal linksing and do follow blogging. If you concenerate on one at the expense of the other then if Google move the goal posts you site will see a quick drop in page rank and visitors.

I think that signature in different forums do help considering that most of my posting sometimes were also shown when searching.

Usually forum thread will not obtain page rank in short amount of time, but if you notice and look carefully some threads which was created years ago have already attained certain PR especially when there are good keywords on it. This will definitely benefit whoever post and reply and their signature on it.

Thanks for all the feedback. I apologize for not doing a search (no excuse, just got a little lazy). But I appreciate the advice from everyone.

As others have said they do pass a litle bit of juice, but I think it depends on what area you are trying to optomise for. I work in mortgages which is very competative, lots of the big players are purchasing site wide text links which are expensive. If you are going after somethin like "blue widgets in arizona" then forum links will be ok. Also its good to get links from a wide variety of places for a good ballance.

As for me, signature in do follow forums really help... but, it must be (as much as possible) related to your niche; SE give more weights on it. SE still give weight to BL from forum signature not related to you, but just a little weight.

Each link helps a little bit. However you should focus on high quality and relevant in-content links from established sites in my opinion. Signature links are good for some targeted traffic and will help Google to greatly index your site.

Yeah. For me, it will help a lot if the signature link was used in a forum that is related to your site. But in forums like DP, it really helps a lot because they were commonly crawled by web spider since these forums are already globally known.
