Search engine name ideas - can anyone brainstorm with me?

What's a good, short name for a Search Engine? I see alot of:

    ...seek.com
    ...find.com
    ...search.com

Is there any other words which can describe a search site?

doesn't need to be a "search" or "find" synonym. Break out and create your own brand. If you can keep a brand to two to three syllables, you should be ok.

As far as synonyms go, I prefer the words "sniff", "grok", or "snort" since those have geeky chic connotations and sound a little out of the norm.

You could use terms like: pounce, grab, or capture, but I think some memorable un-related term may be best.

    I think Dogpile uses "fetch".

Think about some of the biggest names like Google and Yahoo.

They certainly weren't synonyms for the word search but they created a brand with them. Be creative and don't pen yourself in by having to come up with a synonym

I have a couple domains that may work and that I would be happy to make available/sell.

    netprospectors.com or youshouldknow.com

    cheers

Grok still seems the most catchy to me.

I agree with a couple of the others here. I don't think you should look for a synonym for search, 'cos if you go for a new generic name and build on it, you will be able to expand it in the future. Ex: Two years down the line, it might be the most popular search engine around!! ;) Then, you might want to expand into other areas, which will be possible if you have a general brand name rather than a URL specifically related to "search".
