What would you charge?

Hi, my question is regarding pricing for design work, I normally always design full web sites or individual elements i.e flash, graphics, logos etc, but I have asked to create a one page template that will be duplicated across 20 pages, would you still just charge the same as you would for a one page site or would you charge more for creating a custom template?
    If more how much more?

This is a new area for me as I said I'm used to doing full sites :)

    Thanks

    Dee

You should treat it as a custom template designing work and charge accordingly :)

You are creating 20 pages worth of material, so you need to take that into account. However, you shouldn't charge the client as if you were creating these 20 pages each from scratch.

Imo you should charge what you worked for if there is no difference on your end in regards to work why charge more then a single page template. It doesn't matter if its duplicated once or 500 times it's still the same page.
That's the question most clients will ask anyways ;).

What I like to do is charge by the hour once the main design and coding job is complete. That way I can offer my clients additional work should they want it without having to change my prices on them constantly to reflect their requests.

I agree, charging by the hour eliminates all of these problems.

If you just duplicate the page then it is not a 20 page design. A 20 page design would be having to design every single page. I don't really know of any site with something like that anyways.

Probably want a homepage, and a subpage that'll be used for all pages.

Hi thanks :), I never had any intention of charging the client for 20 pages ;) As I said it is just 1 page.

I just meant would you add a little on top of your normal page price, (I want to be fair to the client, whilst not undercutting myself) I decided to charge by the hour, and gave the client a price which they are happy with, I did this before there were any replies, so it's good to see that is the way you guys would have done it also :)

    Thanks

    Dee
