I stumbled on this site a while back and wanted to see who else has used quantcast http://www.quantcast.com/ and is there anything better to track demographics? thanks -Brandon
Quantcast is awful. I put them on and they didn't track 9/10 of my visitors - all of my sources (Analytics, Bluehost, Statcounter) said I was getting 10k+ a month while Quantcast put my monthly uniques at 1000.
I did some tracking with quantcast as well, but did not find the data collected very useful. So I removed the scripts again.
Hey Brandon, I'am ~kev~ on your site as well (in case you forgot ). I tried quantcast for about 8 - 10 months, maybe even close to a year. The demographics are estimated, can you really determine someones age and sex with their IP address? A LOT of the rankings on quantcast are estimates. Rarely did I ever break below 85,000 worldwide. While sites that were "estimated" ranked 20,000 - 30,000 higher then me. What I saw was sites that got about the same amount of traffic as mine, getting a lot better rankings. I know about the other sites traffic because I am a member of those forums - you have to keep an eye on the competition. Some sites that got less traffic then mine ranked better because of quantcast "estimated" system. Estimated means that the site did not have the traffic tag installed. The last straw was when quantcast changed their traffic tag code and did not send me an email. I lost about 2 weeks traffic because of this code change and not a single email or notification of the change. After that screw up by quantcast I removed their code and went to google analytics. I was using quantcast traffic charts to approach advertisers. It was quick and visual for anyone looking to put banners on your site. But I dont know about "major" advertisers. But when quantcast changed their code, it really screwed things up. It made it look like my site had been down for 2 weeks. Quantcast is "ok" - at least it not spyware based like alexa. I do recommend it from time to time. Page loading slows down about 2 seconds or so, but I did not experience any major delays or time outs because of the tag. Recently I have been thinking of re-adding the tag, but I am still mad about what the change of the code and no notification.
Your welcome. For the most part I was happy with the quantcast service, after all it is free. The estimated ranks really got on my nerves, especially when a site was ranked higher then mine, but quantcast had "little data" about the site? That dont even make sense. So quantcast basically said "we have no direct information about this site, but its ranked #25,000 worldwide" - that is BS. When my site got about the same amount of traffic and my site was ranked #95,000 worldwide. Sometimes my site would go from #85,000, to #115,000 over night. But those other "estimated" sites would rarely lose their rankings??
quantcast is not accurate! it shows 60,000 unique daily while google tracks 110,000. I trust google more.
