Stumble Upon: I don't Know Whether To Love It Or Hate It...

I just had my biggest stumble rush yesterday. Over 700 visitors which is great for me.

But as I looked at the stats the traffic is pretty much worthless. I mean they stay for less than 30 secs, dont buy or click anything...but it is still traffic so I am kind of divided.

I wrote a more detailed post on my thoughts about stumble upon:

What has your experience with Stumble Upon been like, and what are your opinions on it?

Yep, same here I had a rush like this for one of my articles. I get 300 uniques for an hour and about 500 for the whole day but that was it, nothing else has come up since then from stubmleupon. Still a good way to dive traffic to your site.

StumbleUpon traffic is people looking for something interesting, something they haven't seen before. If you can provide that to them then it can be very worthwhile.

It is worth it, If the content is really cool.. Just give them what they want and they will love it.
also you will see an increase in your yahoo serp's after you get featured on some good tags.

i run an arcade and i manage quite a few rushes but its all about less than 14 seconds. at first i thought cool, as it makes you feel all cool getting a tonne of visitors. But since then ive pretty much ditched stumbleupon (Although i do get visitors submitting articles by themselves) And gone for search engine traffic and nice traffic driving links

I always look at it like this it may not be the best kind of traffic but it is free and you are increasing your exposure in the process.

It can be even more annoying when you have paid for the stumbleupon traffic!

I've used there advertising quite a few times (www.stumbleupon.com/ads/)

5 cent clicks sounds good, but on all the sites I've tried it on, people have averaged about 2 seconds!

StumbleUpon is responsible for bringing the traffic and you're responsible for keeping it. Make sure you're in right terms with StumbleUpon and have chose the best category to represent your work. Otherwise its just like a FIFA official advertising for Wimbeldon :D Visitors will still come, but ....

I would say that SU traffic is good for brand awareness, social recognition. People there don't buy or click things, but they see you. Have a good web presence, have a good logo, motto and maybe they will remember to visit you next time.

Also they have the lowest bounce rate, which is very interesting...
