We have (in no particula order) so far...

    1. qlWeb
    2. esyndicat
    3. phpld (no longer supporting their *free* version as of august 1st 2008)
    4. phplynx

which one is for you depends on what you are in need of. (i personally like esyndicat)

    Canam,

Use your basic instincts and compare the features of the free phplynx script and the features of the free phpld script, you'll see one comes out top trumps.

    thanks anon and spiderman

sometimes features lists alone don't tell the whole story, but I think it is good to compare what scripts give you usable features and which make paying for upgrades nearly a necessity.... the whole idea is to find a script that works well and we will never have to pay anything for (kind of like how wordpress is a great script for blogging that we get all the featuress we ever need and it will never cost us a dime... there should be something good for directories too)

This question has been asked so many times before. Why not just download a few of them and then decide which one meets your requirements.

Some scripts have a online version you can test out first.

But if your serious about running a directory, you will want to spend a few $$$

The fact that phpLynx is even mentioned as one of the better free scripts out there after defying all the odds say's it all and people can now judge for themselves based on comparisons of features not fiction that many post here.

It's really hard for me to understand why folks would argue about a "Free" script.

someone gave me red rep here just for asking honest questions???

I am pretty new here so any red rep hurts, that is not really very fair :(

I am not taking any sides, just ask for advice and someone red repped me :(

really nice of you, now I really need to get green somewhere, thanks alot for nothing

Out of the 4 I had been using phpld, the advantages lies in the setup, answer a few default question and your directory is ready. The amount of mods and templates also work to its advantage.

Did try out phplynx recently, easy to install but more setting to do. Very impressed with the features however, and I am using the free version, I think the only draw back would be the need to register before posting the links, this may deter some users from posting their links as it is extra work for them. If there is a feature to allow posting of links without registration, that would really be wonderful.

Will try out the rest of the two when I had the time though qlweb does looks promising and exciting.

This comes from someone who really score zero for php programming and just knows the basic installation. The above two was pretty easy installation and setup overall.

You can switch this off and hide the fields that require a user to register first, in admin so they don't show.

Just confirmed that for you by logging into the free version demo; simply go to show/hide fields, then set to True, this will prevent them showing in the signup form. Perhaps have a run through the demo of the full version as well when you get time, there's access to it at the website.

Now don't start twisting my words.

I never said anything about better
    .

The poster asked for a summary of the thread, and those 4 scripts had been posted.

Okay, let me rephrase just to keep you happy.

The fact that phpLynx is even mentioned as one of the [Deleted the word Better] free scripts out there after defying all the odds say's it all and people can now judge for themselves based on comparisons of features not fiction that many post here.

    Is the good enough.

Shame to see you appear to be on your own road Rob - you could of put your talent to the benefit of phpLynx users but have obviously decided otherwise. All I can say on that subject is good luck working with Duval for slave labor. We'd happily accommodate you and ensure your rights are fully protected, not stab knives in your back:rolleyes: Never mind, plenty fish in the sea.

Ps. If you do decide you'd like to join us sometime in the near future, shoot Jamie a PM.

in eSyndiCat you can search all sites in admin panel and you can edit. But i can't search any sites in phpld script. phpld is too basic.
also in phpld links not good for seo,
    http://www.directory.baktabul.com/computers/chats-and-forums/?p=2
    No More
you can approve by one by if you make mistake too hard to find bad sites
for this directory i will but paid eSyndiCat script
    .......................................
but eSyndiCat links is very well http://www.iyim.net/bilgisayar/index2.html
    http://www.iyim.net/bilgisayar/internet/mesaj-panolari/Baktabul-l15.html
also there is a lot of options in admin panel..
you can approve all sites 1 click ( Not More Than 50 sites in one click)
    contact
    repair database
    related category
    download database..... etc.
