Need advice on buying a new laptop!!

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by GFXology.com, Jul 2, 2008.

I am looking for a new laptop and am a little overwhelmed with all of the options out there. So I'll get straight down to it...

I'm looking for a laptop that can easily handle me running Photoshop CS3 and other Adobe programs at the same time. My main use of the laptop will be for Web Design and Programming, so I'll be using Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I also want a laptop that comes with a good (and affordable) warranty. My price range is around $1,000 - $1,700

Right now I'm looking at the Dell Latitude D830, but I want to see if there is any better deals out there. \

    Thanks for any advice.

Are you in the US? if so...Goto to Newegg.com.

You'll find some of the best deals around, and there are helpful Guides that teach you what you need to know before buying a laptop/PC.

They only distribute in the US, I dont know if thats your home.

Yup, I'm from the US and have checked out their site. I've find an Asus computer that I think is a lot better than the Dell except the warranty is a little pricey.

Would you ever consider buying a Macbook? I have one right now and have found it easy to write scripts ect. But, I am not sure if all of those programs would work. I've only used Photoshop on my mac.

tigerdirect.com is another great site like newegg.com

Also, on woot.com today there is a Sony Vaio.

    Get WUXGA..it worth the money
Don't upgrade the RAM, it is much cheap to get it yourself
and get upgrade the video card too, the integrated one is not good enough

and if you are going to do a lot of graphic editing, get a 17" instead..15 is too small

Hm, I may consider it, but they seem to be a little on the pricey side. I'm going into college, so a Mac isn't a must-have.

The new-ish Compaq's/HP's are good. I have a C710TU and the only think that's gone wrong with mine is the power supply has blown 3 times (And also replaced for free 3 times :D) but I think it's because of the terrible circuitry in my house.

Whatever you do, don't get a NEC. I had one, CD drive broke, USB broke, power supply broke, screen got lots of dead pixels

I am using compaq since more then 1.2 years now without having any problem.

@GFXology.com - Dell is a good choice but you have to look for Sony Vaio too.

    DON.

that's funny, because I was going to say don't buy a dell or asus

    I'm on a compaq nx7010 that I bought for 200$ and it runs like a champ :)

but I would go with a HP or a thinkpad
