Major doubt about Squidoo lenses and Hubpages

    Hi everyone,

How does one promote his site through Squidoo lens or Hubpage? It's not a blog for sure, where you can keep on adding content and aim for better traffic and better ranking. Both Squidoo and Hubpage, after all, are just single pages and I don't see anyone adding a lot of content to their lens or Hubpage. From what I've seen, people use it like a landing page where they talk about something and add a plug to their affiliate link or site.

My question is, do I have to keep on adding content to my Squidoo lenses and Hubpages? Or should I just have a couple of really good articles and then promote them to spread the word about my sites?

If you have good experience with Squidoo and Hubpages, I'd like you to take a look at my lenses and Hubpages and tell me what I need to do to promote my lens/hubpage and in the process promote my site, which is my ultimate aim.

Thanks very much for your time.

    Hi Contentedge,

First you have to identify your major keywords. Stick to long tail keywords which are not very popular. Then you should select a Squidoo title and URL matching your keywords. When you write the article inside your Squidoo page, you have to wisely use your keywords in the title and subtitles instead of titles like "What's up folks?" in your Squidoo page. Your content also has to match your major keywords for better ranking.

Thanks for your opinion guys. But the most important doubt, as I already asked, is this - Should I keep adding content to my Squidoo lens and Hubpage regularly just like I do to my blog? If so, what differentiates a blog from a Squidoo lens or Hubpage? Could someone explain?

For better SERP - you should.
No difference between Squidoo, Hubpage, etc. Just a backlink from different IP :)

Do some minimal updates every so often to keep it fresh. I'd create more lenses, each highly targeted, instead of continually adding to one.

Squidoo is not a blogging platform. A Lens is not a collection of posts order by date - it is more like an ordinary web page that you can add anything too.

You would normally build a lens about one topic, and stick to it. It is a good idea to periodically update your lens - if you have a Guestbook, then other people will add content (comments) for you.

You can build as many lenses as you like (the more the merrier), and then link related lenses together. Lenses can also be submitted to Groups.

My 2 cents. Forget about squidoo and start some real SEO work.

Hmmm... you asked a very good question - and one which I had myself. I was doing the same comparison in my mind between a blog - say - and one of these types of pages.

These seem to have captured a little buzz recently - but I was a little disappointed by the answers so far. Can any one answer the basic question you asked? What is the right way to manage & update the content of one of these pages (squidoo or hubpage or other similar).

Are these really effective? The comments on key words are nice - but not really answering the question. If I can paraphrase - I think your question was about "how to create a successful lense or hub page?" what to do and add?

Yours both look good and like a fair bit of work - I am curious if the payoff - work /reward is there so far for you?

personally I think hubpages and squidoo are pretty poor. They used be used within a well rounded link building strategy but don't rely on them you will be disappointed.

I would have to disagree. I have some Squidoo lenses that have both increased my income and sent a good chunk of traffic to my money sites.

From what I see, the benefit to having a Squidoo lens is that you can instantly get traffic to it minutes after you set it up. Also, it allows you to "own" another position in the search engine results so that you can have greater control under the search terms that you are trying to rank for.

Also, quite a few people will find your lens just from searching on Squidoo. Instead of having to wait for a regular site to be indexed before it shows up in search results on the search engines, you could be getting a boatload of traffic just from Squidoo itself.

Lastly, there is a nice exit strategy for Squidoo - if the lens sucks, you can always sell it.

I guess the biggest thing though is if you are looking to succeed with your Squidoo lens or Hubpage, you need to remember to promote it just like a regular site - if you don't, don't expect much from them.

You can essentially treat Squidoo like an article submission and simply point keyword-loaded links to your site.

Hubpages is different because they don't put up with self promotion and they do not allow multiple links to the same site, even if those links point to other areas of a site...they also count cloaked links as wildcards to fit this regulation...overall I'm not crazy about Hubpages, I find Squidoo lenses to rank higher and have more benefit through all of the internal linking and recognition.
