As long as you are tracking which keywords are converting you can use 10,000.

I would recommend you start with about 20 and expand the list to 60 with "phrase" and [exact] match as well as negative keywords.
    This works well for me!
    Best to You!

Try to use first the keywords that have high searches with low competitors. Lot of keywords will not help your site since it was newly launched. You can't focus which keyword would you like to rank first if you are using over 100 keywords.

You can have millions of keywords but be sure to categorize them in different adgroups.

Best if you have maximum 60 keywords in an adgroup.

270 keyword is considered small and will not cause any problems.

Just ensure you have proper tracking methods in place

As others have said, it's not the number of keywords that matter. While more keywords in a campaign will most certainly get you more impressions, if the keywords are not relevant to the ad copy, and ad copy not relevant to the landing page, it won't do you much good.

As long as your 270 terms are related somehow to what you're displaying to potential customers, you'll be fine. If necessary, you can break these terms up into multiple campaigns and use that separation to display more targeted ads.

Number doesn't matter in my opinion, but the way you manage them ;)

    Good luck

Agree entirely... its all about tracking and being able to assess which ones are returning and which ones arent. I had loads that were getting loads of hits and therefore costing me but I was not converting at all... then theres a few keywords that bring in very few visitors but with a ridiculously high conversion. I start with more and work down to be honest to understand what are the good keywords.

It's ok just track them and separate them into tight ad groups.

Just make sure to sort your keywords by type so that you can target your ads well. As long as your budget can handle it expand as much as you need to. The key is are the keywords converting? If so...... why not bring more on.
