Do older domains REALLY get more priority in search engines/Google(?)

Is it true that older domains/URLs get greater priority in Google/search engines? and, if so, is it ALOT of priority? is it WORTH it for people to do?.....from the get-go, our SEO specialist advised to do this.....

No, they don't get priority because they are older. This is where common sense comes into play with search engine optimization, there are many factors why older websites (not domain names) would rank well in search results.

    1. They've had a longer period of time to build backlinks.
    2. They've had a longer time to produce more content (aka web pages)
    3. They've proven themselves not to be a fly by not spam\affiliate website.

    The list goes on...

Google generally likes old domains because they are generally not linked to spam sites and that always rates highly. It's definitely worth persevering with a domain for 2 years plus or buying an older domain in the DP forums

I don't see why an older domain would be less likely to be linked to span sites...

I've just bought a 7 year old domain for the reason of a head start.

If you reg a new one it will take at least 6 months to a year to get competing for top keywords.

If the domain was parked for 3 years, its useless. I dont think the age matters that much as people think. These are just rumors spread by domainers to boost the value of their domains.

Older website do well, older domains don't.

Think about it, why should google give more value to old domains if it had no content whatsoever ? the whole idea of giving low weight to new domains was to avoid too much spam in google index.

I haven't found buying older domains helps a lot, unless they're already got the content/links and trust.

Purely old doesn't seem to gain you anything.

Buying an already strong listed index old domain is worth buying than registering a new domain yesterday.:)

With strong, high PR backlinks, this can be achieved MUCH faster than 6-12 months - on a new domain.

If we are taking about new domains, trying to rank for compeitive keywords, it can take real long. Its just getting way tougher now as everyone is targeting same keywords.

It's thought that Google might give more weight to old LINKS, as they're more likely to be legit. You can't have old links without an old domain...

Domain age means little in my experience. Its how long its been in the index and how long all of it's backlinks have been in.

If you were to buy a new domain, how fast could you get it to say page 5 of google for a keyword with 2,000,000 results?

I'd say I could do it in less than 2 weeks with a domain of one year or older. It helps a lot in my opinion.

I held some first place ranks for awhile on a brand new domain in about 5-6 months. I kept them for awhile but eventually dropped to #4 after about 3 months. This is with a blog site, and I stopped updating as much. So hopefully if I update daily to every other day again I'll get bumped back up. I need to keep building links, too.

definitely 100% start with an aged domain if you can rather than starting a new one. search engines like aged domains for a variety of reasons including more time for the website to be read by people and marked as spam if its a crap site, if a domain is active is active for a long time it tells them that somebody actually cares about the site and maintains it and pays for it, so it must have something worthwhile

I'd have to agree. I bought a few old domains (10+ years) and started doing some SEO for them. They don't get sandboxed like brandnew domains but they don't get that much benefit from being old domains.

I could have probably bought a 1 or 2 year domain for $10 and probably gotten the same benefit.
