I received an offer for a domain that I have parked in Sedo. The price is ok with me, so I have 2 options: 1) I can accept the offer 2) I can put the domain for auction. My question is: why would anyone want to simply accept the offer? If you put the domain for auction, then in the worst case scenario, you end up selling it to the person who made the offer for the money they offered before the auction. So why would I want to simply accept the offer? Am I missing something obvious/basic? Thanks a lot.
I'm not positive, but if you did put it to auction and no one placed a bid or anything, the person who contacted you for it may lose interest if they have to wait longer for it.
But their offer is binding, so when the auction is over, if there weren't any other offers, they have to buy it anyway.
So they put domains on auction when you get an offer? My minimum offers are all for 20$ to encourage people, should I increase them?
Yes, that is exactly right. Their initial bid is supposed to be binding, but I don't think Sedo enforces it. Your decision (sell or auction) also depends on how likely it is that other people will want to bid more for the domain, and how quickly you need the money.
I have domains at Sedo. I simply ignore the offers I get that I am not interested in. I never click the show it for sale option however. I'm not bound to sell any of the sites I have there as far as I know.
You would only be bound to sell the domain if an offer was made and a payment received. Just like me though I just let them sit there. I prefer sales made off site.
I suggest you discuss with the person. Ask him to put his offer as the intial bid and put it up for just 3 days. From your post seems that you are alrite with the price. Tell him its to be fair for you. I am sure he will understand. Also SEDO never enforces the seller to sell your domain or website so you don't have anything to worry about. Hope that helps.
Thanks everyone for the info and advice. I'm a bit worried now, after randomo and kohashi have revealed that sedo doesn't enforce the contracts. I think RootShell's advice makes sense if that's true, cause I do believe the price is fine. @ WebmasterTL: do I get a chance to say anything? Cause it seems to only let me leave the guy a message when I make a counter offer. But if I make a counter offer now, the guy's offer is no longer binding, so I really don't wanna do that if it's the only way.
After reviewing what you say, if I were you. I will accept the offer. However you have the final say.
Hi. I want to thank everyone who helped. I've given positive rep every person who helped me. You gave me a better point of view because you helped me understand better what the situation is. Thanks for pointing out to me the risk related to the fact that Sedo doesn't enforce offers. I am now aware of that risk. Because I'm not desperate to sell it, and because auctions started from an offer you receive only run until the end of the 7th day after you received the offer (and so the potential buyer doesn't have to wait a lot longer to actually buy the domain) I've decided to put it for auction. Here's the thread talking about it: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=910616 I can't talk about the auction here because I believe it's against the rules of this forum, so I had to put that in the "Buy, Sell or Trade" forum. I'm more than happy to continue the discussion there. Thanks to everyone and sorry I forgot to enter my name when I gave the rep.
Wouldn't the down side also be if you put it for auction and the guy that made the original offer was the only bidder and won it for a lot less?
Here's something that could happen if you get an offer, then send it to auction: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=910727
LOL I know, I spoke to Jason, just in case we were talking about the same domain, but no. Mine is pso.com.ar, and the auction is still running (hopefully no one will get upset!)
