VPS or Dedicated

So, I run two blogs...The first of those two hit the front page of digg today and that landed me with a suspension from my web host. I am trying to figure out what kind of hosting I need to go with, but I am currently unsure. I know that, for the future, I need to install wp-cache which I will do, but do I need to get a dedicated or would a VPS be good enough?

I would need fully managed for either one, so I am curious on what people think would be the best to get. Thanks.

 

Depends on the amount of traffic you get daily, and how many hosts are in the server you share. I decided to go with a dedicated when i reached an average of aproximately 7,000 daily users. Try wordpress super cache, it can save you some money and maybe you just need a vps.

 

Who is your current webhost and why did they suspend you? What rule did you break exactly?

 

Host Gator and they suspended me because I got too much traffic too fast. I hit the front page of digg.

 

Damn. I was thinking of going with Hostgator too. Seems unfair that you get traffic and they shut you down. Did they ask you to upgrade?

 

Yeah, they said "let us help you upgrade to a dedicated." I responded "are all my files gone." They sent me to a suspended page.

 

How many UV a day you recevied when hostgator suspends you? I'm in hostgator and I don't want that to happen to me. So I better be warned.

 

In one day, I hit 1800. But what it was was the fact that it was almost at the exact same time.

 

oops.. i got 2k-3k UV a day.. that's constant.. but they still don't suspend me.. maybe when I reached 5k UV a day I might transfer to a VPS (not dedicated.. it's too expensive)

 

If you are not getting upwards iof 5000 a day, no need to go to a VPS.. VPS will easily handle till 10000 a day.. Go for dedicated when you cross 10000. I am saying this because you mentioned that it is a blog.

For other resource intensive sites like Forums etc, you would need VPS and Dedicated at lower levels of Uniques.

 

Well...Where do you recommend I get the VPS from?

 

Softlayer is very reputed for dedicated. But I am not sure if they have VPS. check them out. A small orange is also very good.

 

I second asmallorange.com. They have VPS and I've been really impressed with their customer service so far. I recommend them all the time. They don't push you to upgrade when you really don't need it either which is nice.
