I am thinking of building a one-page website with just a landing page, putting some affiliate product(s) on it, and using PPC to promote it (I know it won't get very high in the SERPs). Can this be effective? Has anyone tried anything like this before?
Lately search engines have ramped up the way they reward websites for relevance. If you have unique and original content written by you (or someone you hire), its safe to say you'll have better results.. However.. There are many who have had lots of success (ie money) with one page websites. I would say that if you are going to do a one page website, be sure to include an About, Privacy, Disclaimer, and Contact Us pages as well in the footer. Your "Home" page can act as a landing page, but you will ideally have the aforementioned add on pages as well. Google likes it! Also you could consider installing a blog with Wordpress and link to it in the footer. When you advertise your website, customers will be greeted with the "Home" page (think landing page) and if they care to check out your footer they can view your blog and contact info as well. Hope that helps as this is what I'm currently doing.
GSto indicating he would be leveraging PPC traffic, so the rewards of relevance won't come into play (at least not in any meaningful way), only what he bids on keywords. PPA (pay per action) arbitrage is a lot dicier than PPC (pay per click) arbitrage. Not only do the affiliates have to be attractive enough to generate a click but also a sign up of some sort. PPC is a function of monetizing a percentage of your traffic, PPA is a function of monetizing a percentage of a percentage of your traffic, bigger risk but bigger reward too.
A 1 page site is fine for say (ebay affiliates). That's all I use with pretty good success. Traffic is the key. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Interesting, I'll get cracking on this this evening and let you all know how it goes. I'll make the info pages you mentioned above, and I'll leave it open to having articles in the future, if I decide to add them to get some more Search engine love.
one page sites are fine, but it will help with your quality score to have a privacy policy, contactus and other basic pages.
One-page sites, also known as mini-sites can be a great way to make money online. But I wouldn't suggest just placing a bunch of banners or affiliate links on them. Content is very important. Perhaps a product review or story of why you find a certain program useful or what problems it solves for people - then add an affiliate link. Mini-sites can be a great way to encourage people to subscribe to your newsletter or contact list.
I've seen one page affiliate website and they offer free tips. The visitor could avail the free tips in exchange of an email address. These email addresses will then be utilized later to promote the product. Targeted traffic via link building will surely boost the potential of these one page site.
DOes anyone have any advice for the kind of stuff I should/need to include on the About, Privacy, Disclaimer, and Contact Us pages?
