It's not that hard to compete. Update more. Update with more pictures. Update daily. Have the best pictures first. Have better quality images. Do niche focused... Polish only, Czech only, European, just models, just musicians, just Indie musicians, and on and on. It's really not hard. The problem is few think outside the box,.. much less know how to market or drive traffic. They are their own worst enemy. 2 cents.
Yeah, now I'm thinking about building a celeb site. But where do I get the images or content. I don't think Perez Hilton will just give it to me. Or will he? Ha ha..
Can anyone tell me a good script for fansites? It dosen't have to be free but a free script would be appreciated?
Mine's custom, so I am not much help on that. I did have a simple one done. I think it was like IDUT CMS. Not sure of the limitations since I just use those sites as link bait.
If you can get the correct traffic, oh yeah. Tons of revenue and if the content is updated, the traffic lasts too
This is what I have learnt from my quest to start celeb sites.. ALLL THE PICTURES you will ever get are Copyrighted by someone else, so high chance that you will get a cease and desist. Even if you don't you are stealing.. I don't want to hire a lawyer ever, so I have either produced my content or used PD content.. And dear barefootsies.. about xx,xxx you don't need celeb to make that. I pull that much from joke and email forwards type content alone... Oh even recipes.. and poems ... and tutorials .. I even asked barefootsies this question on the Pictures. I didn't understand his legal answers. I don't want to do anything that might be illegal... So dear friend if you want to start a Celeb site, there are two ways.. genuine.. This is what I have dabbled in and many people here does.. Create a thin site around a celeb domain name. like britney-spears.org .. with about 20 pages. Create 50 more such sites around other celebs in about 10 shared hosts. Interlink them.. Do some 3-4 link way exchange with similar webmasters. You will get some clicks... Clicks are low paying but if you can pull in 2-10 dollars a day each from those site, you shouldn't be in this business.. Some site will give you less than 1 dollar a day, but there will be some winners with 20-30 a day.. from adsense. You can throw in a CPM based adverstising.. You don't add a lot of pictures,, just a couple from website that will not bother to ask for cease and desist. Even if they do, just change the pictures but keep the name of the image same.. or buy the picture.. 2) Produce your own pictures.. Buy them from wire images.com or like barefootsies, produce your own pictures.. But I don't believe he produce all his pictures... I believe he has anjelina's foot and all that stuff which I don't believe belongs to him...
Ah. Where to start... Obviously "reading" is not on the agenda, or I would be cited correctly. So we'll cover the basics. 1. Never said I owned anything in the celebrity niche in regards to pictures. Only my own CMS. I produce my own ADULT sites. Again, in regards to content. 2. Never said celeb was the only way to make XX,XXX. 3. In 11 years, I have maybe received a half dozen C&D. I have friends who run celeb sites as well. Some received a dozen. Some none in same time. Remove the offending material. That's the end of it. It's only when you fight them claiming you have some permission is when you get into issues like Perez Hilton. 4. If you are that concerned, as some of the supposed internet esquires on this board, about legal stuff. The solution is very simple and I've went over this countless times on here. You form an LLC. Should the absolute worse thing every happen, as many internet esquires on here tell you will (but it won't). Then you go out of business. They sue you for what? You domain, computer, and bank account? The fact of the matter is that many people who give advice on this board about business haven't a clue about how to really run one. I wonder if some of these same internet esquires are so 'legal' when it comes to "cloning" other people's sites. We see that all over the place. How about downloading, or ripping off music, software, game cracks, DVDs... You see where I am going here. Many on this board will make it out like they are Holier than thou, and behind the scenes they are ripping off everything on the net they can get their hands on. But that's ok right?. Because it's for private use only?
Well this has been of great help for me but I am still in a search for a good script. I googled for fansites script but didn't find any satisfactory results. The biggest problem is with me that I can't design or code. @baresootsies - Can you tell from where to get continuous fresh non watermarked content?
Use celebrity blogs to get photos, frankly as mentioned above it isn't going to matter where you get your pictures from because either way they ain't yours. Nothing is going to be perfect unless you plan on investing $xx,xxx into your fan sites which I'm sure you don't plan on doing. There is no "right" place to steal pictures lol the reality of it is though that chances are unless you become huge you aren't going to get any C&D. You know how many people scrap photo's from the popular celebrity blogs? If they went after everyone they wouldn't have time to do anything else which is why they don't. Use Wordpress as your CMS as well as it's easy and requires no knowledge except for pointing and clicking. You could of set-up probably twenty or so fan sites in the time you've been asking questions. Sometimes it's best to just start and then see where it leads you, too much planning makes your work output suffer deeply I find and I've been one to "over plan" in the past. Worst case you don't like the sites after creating five of them and you chop them in the sites forum on here to make some money off the time invested. Either way you're going to make some money, either from the sale of the sites or through keeping them so basically you should just get down to business so that the time you invest in the idea is worth it. Meaning instead of planning for a week you could make make a fan site each day and then after the week ends you'll have an idea of what it's going to be like to remain in the niche. If you yourself liking the niche then keep the sites if you don't then chop them.
I agree with this 100%, the best way to learn is to jump in and just start working. Everytime you encounter a problem you learn how to fix it and continue on.
@ Scott - I agree with you. I think its time to stop researching and start doing. Can you suggest any nice template for a celebrities blog which can be customised?
Well I only use Wordpress if you decide to use that I can point you towards some themes... There are quite a few celebrity/entertainment themes that you can use which are easily customized. -Scott
