    Hi guys, I received a US dollar check and that damn HDFC dude says that the clearing of check will take around 40% charge. :mad:

    I can't understand it , is it true? How much % have u seen cut while clearing the check ?

    Also, what are other best options for clearing US $ check ?

    I deposited a check in ICICI a couple of months back and hardly something around 250 or 350 was deducted I suppose.

    Dont know the actual stats right now.

    I deposited 15$ cheque of adbrite in Indian Bank a month ago got 568Rs finally not bad IMO :)

    There must be some mistake in calculation at bank's end or your end because i have deposited $20 check in my ICICI bank 5-6 months back and they deduct around 150 to 200 INR for that.

    I think there is some calculation mistake. Contact them ASAP and ask about fees..

    even if that hdfc does not work try getting in some govenment bank like sbi. they probably dont even charge the fees. otherwise i have personally used ICICI and the bank has a very nominal charge. please check with your bank agagin.

    Mate you're in India. Half the people serving you don't know what they are talking about. Whenever I go back, I always have epic problems because of corruption or just general rudeness/bad customer service.

    thanks guys for responding...that dude at HDFC must be crazy...he knows shit about this stuff..Idk how the hell they give him job! He also said b4 you have to be an NRI to receive dollar checks.IDIOT!

    Anyways..I am gonna see ICICI for sure..

    Mate, You seem to be having wrong information, Forex services are the chepest in HDFC bank when compared to any Indian bank, Let it be SBI or ICICI,

    The charges for clearing your Canada check ( Any international check) by HDFC are Rs 300/- only. Your account will be deducted of this charges once your cheque gets cleared, So be rest assured, simply deposit your cheque and check your account after 21 working days and you would have the funds credited in your account.

    The links you gave mate, don't oint out that HDFC charges a flat fee of 300/-
    Even if it does,HDFC doesn't come around as the cheapest servcie, cuz if you read posts here all the banks like ICICI, SBI and as gsv13 pointed out, Indian Bank deducted only 40/- for a 15$ check.!!

    Having said that, I beleive if the staff of a bank dosn't know what they are talking about and are just complete morones, what can u do? This thing drives me mad..and lack of customer support in such reputd international banks in our country is just freaking ridiculous.

    Even if the charges are not mentioned in the links, You can be rest assured that they are only Rs 300/- for an offshore check enchashment, As for your claim that Indian bank deducted only Rs 40 for a 15 $ check, I refuse to accept the claim, Banks have a min charge for processing from 1 $ to 1,00,000 $ and that is a flat fee fixed by different banks, SBI charges around Rs 450/-, ICICI 600/- and HDFC 300/-,

    Feel free to contact the customer care of HDFC bank on the above links and also lodge a complaint against the branch manager who tried to misguide you, HDFC bank is very strict when it comes to customer satisfaction and the said employee can be in reall trouble for the misinformation he has provided

    IMO it's not 40Rs it is some fixed amount of % which most of the nationalized banks charge for foreign cheques!
    Asking there employees is hitting head with wall ... so why bother when it's a small amt ;)

    they will definitely tell you the right things and will take action about your misleading
    branch too.
