No, it's not a good idea. It's a dumb idea. You're looking for members of a forum to sign up for a members-of-that-forum Google group? Why would anyone want to do that? They are ALREADY members of this forum? And by the way, technically I think that's called "poaching".
Why do people form yahoo groups ? Why do people form google groups ? Cause they are members of other stuff its whay your talking about
But that's usually because they don't have a place to congregate. I'm a member of a yahoo group where everyone uses the same vendor. They discuss out of stock items, discontinued stuff, etc. They made the group because the vendor doesn't have a forum or a way to discuss things on their own site. Making a group for a forum is silly, on its face.
