    I noticed a lot of folks have (for profit) links in their signatures. I'm curious what I can find out about these. Are these affiliate links, do the posters own the destination websites, what makes it work well? I'm guessing this is a minor source of income or only suitable for those in lower wage countries (such as India).

    It's a great place to add a quality backlink to your site.

    Not sure how well you can sell from them as I have not yet hit the threshold where I'm allowed to have one ;)

    it wont sell for much price but if for personal backlink use i think is good.

    can I assume that your link is to a forum you own?

    I see a lot of links I assume are "affiliate" type of relationship just because there are several and all go to different websites related to the forum topic, or is this people who sold their signature for $5 a month??

    By the way, I didn't mean anything derogatory towards anybody or any county in my original posting when I commented on various wage rates.

    It's mainly a traffic thing. Most poeple post links to their own websites, or sell their signatures and post other people's websites. Occasionally someone will post an affiliate link, but from my experience, that rarely works.
