I plan on creating a shopping-related blog soon. I want my posts to rank well on Google without doing much SEO, so I would like to buy a preexisting domain that already has a good PR and good links. Here are my two options: 1. Buy a generic PR5 domain with a few .edu,.gov, or corporate links, as well as an assortment of other links. I would spend $500-$900 on this. The name would probably not be directly related to the content of my blog posts. 2. Take a PR 3 domain I have now and use the money I would have spent on a domain to develop good quality backlinks. Which would be a better option? If I opt to purchase a PR5 generic domain with good links, will those links be of any use to me, or will they be useless since they're not relevent?
if you buy a generc high pr domain with backlinks, then the backlinks you get will not be relevant to your niche therefore will not provide you the best value. besides, there will be no guaranty that those backlinks will stay once the domain is transferred. i would go with option 2
your probably best off starting from scratch so you dont inherit any problems/penalties from whatever the previous owners did.
I would go for the second one personally, but I think the best domain is always the one best suited to your site. SEO can be important, but you can build up links over time, and a good domain will keep visitors coming back.
Its not too much money for the PR5 I would suggest going for that. Why? Its really difficult at the moment getting PR5. If you have a blog with PR5 you can get the money back selling advertising space, reviews and such.
