I will be starting to sell links on a new PR 8 directory.
How much should I charge? :)

The homepage is currently an 8. The site was sold recently. The internal pages do not have rank.

I can't give the URL yet, but with this information, how much would you pay for Regular Links and Featured Links?
How much would you pay for a homepage link?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

(I'm thinking $12/$25 for regular/featured, and the highest offer for homepage)

If you want a high quality directory you shouldn't sell homepage links. It'd be a better value for your regular listings if you kept it clean. I'd rather see you charge more for those lisitings than to whore out the homepage like all those other low quality PR3 directories that everyone else has.

How long has the site been a pr8? I'd have thought $100+ a month for the homepage depending on traffic.

I don't know. There are also some internal pages from the "old" site that I may offer as well.

So I don't actually own the site. I am only helping to get this person started.
I can't really say all that much regarding the history of the site, but it will be a great opportunity for some people, though there is no way to know if google will keep the PR, but you never know, it might!

I'm hoping to start taking submissions about 11 PM EST.

If someone is going to be online around 11 and wants at least one regular link, let me know, as this will help me test the payments. I'm going to try to work it so the New Links also get onto a PR 7 page (no promise, but I should be able to work that out).

    Thanks,
    David

Charge a refundable "review fee", and don't sell sitewide. Avoid words like seo, link building, web directory, advertise here, sponsor, partner, featured, paid..
You can make money and keep quality at the same time.
Some people create a new directory every week, accept free listing for a while, and start selling permanent sitewide links. This almost kills value of a directory.

If the site got the PR8 in the last update it isn't worth anything except 2 free minutes. Sites that had 30 backlinks from google were able to snag a PR8.

What would be an example of a site that got PageRanks 8 with 30 backlinks, and isn't worth anything. If you own it, I'll buy it. ;)

I will try to refrain from sitewide links initially, especially if we are doing well otherwise.

Since this site it not owned by me, but I am taking the money, I am going to try to hold the money for 30 days to help protect the buyer. While I hope this will be a long standing, high pr directory, that will allow me to at least make a small guarantee. I will be placing a few of my own links their too, so I hope this will be a permanent situation that helps everyone, though I must be clear I am not the owner of the domain.

was it a directory too before it was sold? otherwise it may lose the PR, you should start selling links after next PR update

I think your initial offerings are conservative.

Given the PR, and the fact that many people chase specifically that when paying for listings, I think you could go as much as double (on both reg and featured) and still get hammered with listing requests.

Id suggest to be very picky about what sites you will include. The refundable review fee could be a good idea - maybe minus a small fee $2-$5 for administration. That should discourage any timewasters.

As I recall, it turned out to be redirected PR from another site, which is why the thread died out without further discussion back at the time.
