its very sad indeed, its also noticeable how the Iranians were prepared, they knew in advanced, that US and its army are not trustworthy, and would fake something to provoke war, probably from past experience.

If I remember right the sequence of events was something like:

US fleet receives eerily threatening message at the same time Iranian patrol boats are nearby.

Right afterwards the Iranian patrol boats hail the US fleet asking for their heading then watch as they go on their way.

The terrorist threat was from some local crazy person not associated with either group, and who had a history of pulling similar pranks in the past, but this wasn't known right away and the US fleet thought it was coming from the Iranian's.

Not everything is a conspiracy.
