Google Ads On Discussion Forums

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by Sunshine, Apr 18, 2006.

    Hi,

Does anyone know if it's OK to put google ads on discussion forums? I guess what I want to know is if it is against their terms to do something like this as I would like to add this to my forum, except I'm unsure about it.

    Any ideas about this?

    Thanks,

    Sunshine

Unless it is a porno fanatic or gambling adicts forum, I'm pretty sure it is allowed ;)

I'm not sure but what would lead you to ask this? What type of forum is this?

It's ok, unless it's a forum related to one of the categories mentioned as no-no's in the TOS (gambling, pharmaceutical, porn etc)

I know there are forums that do it....but it seems I've also heard that it's against Google's terms.

It certainly isn't against their terms, as my main site (which is a forum site) was accepted by them :)

Mark...thanks for that info. If they looked at your forum and approved it then I guess it must be OK.

    Regards,

I'm pretty sure it is fine on most forums. The problem is that other users can do things that constitute TOS violations. For example, on DigitalPoint we often mention ads, which could be considered bringing attention to them.

There is nothing to stop someone on your forums from telling other users to click the ads, and them doing so could see you banned from AdSense.

While Google claim to be fine with people having AdSense on forums, I don't think anyone can do it 100% safely unless you monitor every message that is posted and remove it if it draws attention to the ads...

There is absolutly no problem in using Adsense in your forums, as long as the terms are maintained. I'm doing it without any issues @ TechTalkz Forums.

But the user posting can be an issue. You can make use the service of mods to clean up and control posts.
